    Hi,

    Would someone be able to explain what the 'Group settings' do in Cognos12 configuration? Why would you choose the same 'Group name' for all configurations or different names.

    I've tried to find more information but nothing makes any sense. In Cognos 10, I've configured and used 'Server Group' under tuning in Cognos Administration -> system.. Which can be seen under 'Server Groups'

    Are the configuration group setting related to, replacement or enhancement to Cognos administration dispatcher server groups settings?

    I am intending to install a four server Cognos Analytics12 distributed system. (Webserver, content manager, standby content manger + 2 dispatcher, 2 dispatcher)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Trevor,
     
    In Cognos 10 the Advanced Settings were set in the "IBM Cognos Administration -> System". 
     
    The Configuration Group in Cognos 11/12 is used to distribute Advanced Settings to Cognos servers (via the Flipper process). These values are set in the Manage -> Configuration -> System. 
     
    Group Setting mentioned is used for Routing Rules and not related to the Configuration Group settings.

    Essentially, if you don't configure this correctly not all of your servers will pick up these Advanced Settings so you may see different results depending on which one is processing your requests.

    Hi Trevor,

    this has been a confusing point to me too for a while - what exactly is stored and distributed in the config group. I don't believe it is explained in the documentation (at least I was not able to find it).

    If I understand your response correctly - it would be the settings under Manage -> Configuration -> System. 

    But the settings there are in addition to what you can set in IBM Cognos Administration - System. 

    So does the config group only distribute the new settings or both?

    I am not sure how much of the internal workings to post here but this document gives a bit of information on it. You can use this info to see various changes as they are being made.
