  • 1.  Cognos 11 run as Excel Data or CSV column header error

    Posted Mon August 05, 2024 04:11 PM

In a Cognos 11 report I'm using a data item as a column header in a list.  When I run the report in HTML it works as intended but when I run it to Excel Data or CSV it adds that data item as an additional column and the column where it's supposed to be used as a header has it's original name.

Does anyone know how I can get the Excel Data or CSV files to not add the extra column but to use the value as the column header instead?

Did you try creating query calculation instead?

Is it being split because of a comma in the heading?

When you run a report as CSV or as Excel Data format, the layout and formatting in your page is ignored - the report just dumps out the data described in the first query as a plain old list. If you want your layout and formatting to be preserved, use the Excel rendering option (or HTML or PDF).

    Cheers!

    Hi,

This issue occurs because Cognos 11 handles data items differently in HTML vs. Excel/CSV exports. To resolve this:

    1. Set Static Headers: Manually set the column header text in the report layout properties.
    2. Use Report Expressions: Create a report expression to dynamically set the column header.
    3. Check Export Settings: Ensure your export settings are configured correctly to handle headers.
