    Hi All,

Perhaps I missed this, but within C10 you are able to add some comments to a saved report.
Users who has access to the report, where able to create some comments to the report.
Within the tool-bar, there was an option [Add Commants]... but within C11 I don't see that option.

Should this still be available within C11 ?
Within the properties of the report, you still have the option to enable/disable this, but I can't find the option to add it to the report.

We are using C11.1.7, but that shouldn't matter.

    Thanks.

    Hi Chris

I believe the capability has been removed, as has the Watch rules.

Pity as I had use for them recently.

Chris Bos – in versions of IBM Cognos 11.x.x, they have decided to allow the client to set up their own Collaboration tools, to set this, you will have to go to:

    -       Manage > Collaboration > Add

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for your reply.

I missed this one to, but nice there is another configuration for your own collaboration setup.
It looks like there is only an intergration with Slack, so how about other tools like TEAMS / WIRE / Confluence and others?
There a many companies with other tools I think.
And what about companies where due to compiance rules it's not allowed to store outside Cognos Analytics?
To be honest, I don't understand to remove the working capability and not have an alternative option.
Setting up a collaboration tool looks nice, but to me it's way to big (and not working) option for the adding small comments to saved reports.

Why not add a -property- button what's showing the comments, should not be that hard to implement.
    I think a missed opportunity.

    Chris

@Chris Bos – as far as I know it only supports Slack right now.  I wish they would allow for other vendors and/or bring back the legacy tool.

    Hi Peter,

    Exactly, that's my opinion too.
IBM, don't focus on one Collaboration tool, but add others as well.
And make the existing capability also available with the CA GUI (add comments to saved reports).
I don't want to have to install a Collaborations tool for something what was available within Cognos itself.

Off Topic: Peter perhaps you can change your signature, you are using a lot of empty space.

    Oke,

    @andy ellis
The information is not correct. The feature is still there, and from the beginning of cognos 11 there was the problem that the feature was not there only in classic view.
Now in 11.1.7 its there, BUT it doesn't do anything.

    Why !!, my guess :

Look at the item from this forum Dec 2019: Link
now sinds some time in 11.1 the classic option is removed,.... BUT. there is another official ibm workaround to get the old cognos connection back up and running.
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-display-version-10-cognos-connection-home-page-cognos-analytics-11

It would not be my surprise that they fixed the GUI button but the functionality ONLY works in the OLDER cognos connection web interface.

Sow i would really like to hear from ibm tech what the real status is from functionality that worked fine sinds cognos 8.4 and from the change to 11 was officially noticed at oke we need to work on it, and now 5 years later still not working ??

Lets see with 11.2 it should be the best upgrade from a UI standpoint...., hope they fixed it there.....

    Hi Maarten,

    Thanks for you reply.

With the parameter and new URL (/v1/disp), it is indeed possible to add the comments like is was available within C8/C10.
But to be honest, it is the same to show a Windows 3.11 GUI within Windows 10.... it doesn't look nice but old-fashioned, don't you agree.
I will be  ashamed if I had to show this to ICT people and Management, so I'm definitely not going to do that.

I love what IBM has done with the new GUI within CA 11 and especially in version 11.2.0, so I don't want to go back.

To me it is incomprehensible that there is a capability available ("Enable comments in saved output versions"), but it looks like without no value......
A Software Developer has been consciously working on this, but I wonder for what purpose, if we can't use this feature.

As I indicated above, it looks like IBM want you to use Slack for this, but if this is really their roadmap, IBM missed again how companies uses this BI Suite.
Not every company wants to use Slack but are using other collaboration tools.
And many companies used want to add some small comments to a (saved) report, so why installing and maintaining a collaboration tool/suite.
Not to mention companies that want to stay within CA itself, instead of another tool / vendor.

An acceptable solution would be an option you still can add comments to your saved reports, with a property button or with a popup screen, or whatever.
It can't be difficult to implement within the new GUI and Brwoser option, agree ?

In short, IBM, help us to stay enthusiastic about Cognos Analytics and add this capability we allready had.

    Kind Regards,

    Hey Chris,

I really like to be enthusiastic about Cognos, and don't get me wrong there are a lot of good things.
But, ... there is a butt..... It would be very dysfunctional to get enthusiastic about a feature that was always there since 8.4 and even now in cognos 11 still is
(only under classic view, sow the mechanics never left.)...Only 5 to 6 years ago would not get implemented in the visual side of cognos 11 and until _as_of_date still isn't there....That's something that I can not get my head around.

Besides that, where on an IBM Cognos forum.... where are the IBM techs ??.
Not specific on your post. But IBM wants the interaction of professionals on their platform. They want to know what we would like and have a dialogue about a lot of stuff. Butt why are there almost no responses on topics with clarifications or added information? There are a lot of topics I would like to see what IBM thinks of that and how they would suggest we as professionals could solve/or handle those use cases of problems?

    Hi Maarten,

    Thanks for your reply again.

I agree with you, IBM Cognos Analytics is one of the best Analytics suite available at the moment.
Although I love & like Tableau / PowerBI (MS-BI) / Qlik, for me they are tools and not (yet) BI Suites.

But, there is always a but.....
I can't, and will not understand, why a good used capability is removed within Cognos without offering an alternative.
So without an -good- explanation why IBM removed this, for me it's hard not going to solutions that do offer this on a right way.

I like your opinion about this forum: where is the feedback of IBM tech ?
They asked customers feedback, and I love that approach.
But asking is not enough, also IBM should give feedback.
I do like discussions and perhaps customers aren't aware of technical challenges.
But being invisible can't be right.

    Kind Regards,
