Powerplay Studio and Edge

  • 1.  Powerplay Studio and Edge

With the latest Windows update Internet Explorer has been removed.
We managed to run Powerplay Studio in compatibility mode but the toolbar is not fully functional.
Crosstab, Chart, Display Option, Zero Suppression, Help and File do not work - this means that users are unable to download to Excel !!!

Anyone out there with the same problem? Anyone found a solution?

Hi Dagur - Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for this, but I have the exact same question. With IE almost being phased out, what happens to PowerPlay reports? We depend so much on them.

    Hi Dagur,

We're in the same boat as you and Monib (and very likely many many other customers) and rely heavily on Powerplay and cubes.  Which update removed IE?  Was it this recent fall update?  It was annoying enough that Microsoft did their best to hide IE in Windows 10 but completely removing it (as they've long threatened) will be a tough hurdle for us.  IBM has long tried to kill off PowerPlay and it's no surprise that it's still version 11.0.0.0.  We've looked at Power Cubes but they're too lacking in functionality to be of use to us.

Have you opened a ticket with IBM?  It's about time they put a little effort into PowerPlay.

Also, does anyone know if you can download and re-install IE?

    Hi Wayne,

What seems to have happened is that with the latest Windows update, as our default webpage (centrally controlled) is fully Edge compatible, any attempt to open IE would result in Edge being opened. Making it appear that IE was gone. We solved this temporarily by changing our default webpage. Still we need IBM to support PowerPlay Studio in Edge and not only in IE mode as this does not quite work.

We need to put our votes on this enhancement request from 2018!

    Hi Dagur,

I voted and added a comment (would be happy with a fix at least for PP version 11.

So that's good to know MS hasn't removed IE entirely, but it's only a matter of time.

I may still open a ticket with IBM.  Otherwise with the "feature request" who knows when they might get around to it.

    Best regards!

    Hi Guys

I will look into this for you.

In the meantime if you have not given this enhancement request a vote it would be a good first step.

    Hi Everyone,

Microsoft Chromium Edge is now supported with Powerplay Enterprise Server 11.
    https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity-reports/report/html/prereqsForProduct?deliverableId=C39B02A0F1FB11E695C014340D55D932

I know if you have to use IE this will not help your specific situation but from what I have read Chromium Edge is the recommended upgrade path.

Also since Microsoft has announced end of support for their legacy Edge browser in a couple months it will not be supported.

    Hope this helps,
    Trevor

    Hi Trevor,

What is the "fix"?  I don't see any reference to a patch for PowerPlay and according to the compatibility doc in your link, for Chromium Edge it says, "Any Version", so it's not indicating an update/patch by Microsoft.

    Regards,

    Wayne

We found a workaround to show the toolbar in Powerplay Studio using Edge in Internet Explorer mode.
Right click anywhere in the data area to show the Edit Title... popup menu.
Following this the popup menu of the toolbar appear.
