  • 1.  Creating navigation path in dashboards

    Posted Fri July 03, 2020 09:17 AM
    Hello,
We are running 11.1.5 in parallel with 11.0.13.
We have started leveraging some of the great possibilities of navigation paths.

In 11.1.5 users can create navigation paths in dashboards, only when source is data modules, not packages.
In 11.0.13 users can create navigation paths in dashboards, also when source is a framework manager package.

Does anyone know if this is a feature removed from 11.1.x or is it a bug?

Hopefully someone from IBM can confirm.

    Hello Sandeep,

I don't have 11.0.13 setup to confirm the comparative behavior per your mention.

However, Navigation paths were featured with web based modeling (i.e. Data module) to provide Drill-down / up behavior similar to hierarchies in FM-DMR models/cubes.

Version 11.1.x still allows to add FM Package to a Data Module and define Navigation paths into it.
Please refer documentation for 11.0.x series for creating Navigation Paths.

    Good morning Sandeep,

I am running v11.1.5 and I am able to successfully create and use Navigation Paths in a Dashboard sourced by a relational package (my experiment this morning was with Go Sales (query)).

Could you please provide more information about your package?

    - Does it contain DMR or any other OLAP data sources such as Power Cubes, SSAS, etc?

    - If no OLAP, have you run the package through the "Enhance Package" process in your environment (shouldn't be necessary from what I read, but mine has been thru that process and I wanted to make sure we had identical test cases)

The functionality has not been removed.

I am able to create navigation paths using query items from a FM package.

There are two methods to create a navigation path in a dashboard.

One is to select query items and invoke the context menu. If the usage of all of the selected query items is not a measure then the create navigation path menu item should be available.

The other method is to select the navigation path folder and invoke the context menu.

    1. What is the usage of the selected query items?
    2. Are you able to select the navigation path folder and invoke the context menu?
    3. Are you able to identify differences between the FM package in 11.0.13 and that of 11.1.5?
    4. Is this happening for all users or just some?
    5. Are you able to identify differences in the capabilities of the users in 11.0.13 and 11.1.5?
