I'm wondering if anyone else is having issues with Jobs in 11.1.7?

We have an important job we use for testing and it ran fine pre upgrade, but post upgrade I get an error when I try to open the job "Failed to retrieve job steps" and the job does not open. However, I can still run the job using "Run as."

Support suggested we encountered PH28992 DELETING FILES LISTED IN JOB CAUSES JOB TO OPEN UP AS A NEW JOB. WITH THE ERROR "UNABLE TO RETRIEVE JOB STEPS.

We did not delete any steps in the job, so this is not the cause, though I think I've identified the problematic report because one appears as "Unavailable" when I view run history details while the job is running. Support is now suggesting the report ID was changed breaking the link to the job, but we can't think of anything in our process that would change a report ID used in the job.

The Classic View button we saw at the top of the Jobs interface in 11.1.4 is not longer available with 11.1.7, but it seems IBM hasn't fully dealt with error handling. Instead of allowing you to inspect the job and see the offending entry, the new interface won't display the job at all. At this point, it seems the only option is to create a new job, which is not a trivial task given the 47 reports in this job.

    Thanks,
    Wendi

    Good morning Wendi.

I've had these same issues the last 2 releases (R6 and 7) where I get one or two reports in jobs whose id's have changed and need to be remapped.  It was actually harder to fix in 11.1.6.

To edit the job and correct the issue with the report, you must first enable the Cognos Connection portal by using the advanced parameter portal.disablecc and set the value to "false" -- that's case sensitive I'm told, so be sure its all lower case.  This article gives the details:  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-display-version-10-cognos-connection-home-page-cognos-analytics-11

Then log into Cognos via one of your dispatchers using a URL of this format:  http://dispather-server-name:port/bi/v1/disp.  After you've logged in you'll see the old Cognos Connection portal.

Navigate to your job, edit it, and fix the step(s) that are coming up with errors.  Save it, and you'll be able to edit the job going forward using the normal 'glass' cognos 11 interface... until such time as another report in a step "goes rogue".

I once saw a posting (can't remember where) indicating that IBM was aware of the issue and was working on a fix so the job can be fixed without having to use cognos connection... perhaps one of the IBMers who participate in this forum can comment on the status of that fix or provide the APAR for us to monitor.

Until then, I've used this work around multiple times, and it works well.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks, Rich! I had forgotten about enabling the Classic View. That helped me resolve the offending report.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Wendi,

The issue that Richard is referring to was logged and worked on couple weeks ago. I recommend using the method Richard describes until a fix is made publicly available. (We are aiming for Oct 7. That date could change.)

Please let me know if there are any issue with that method as I would like to make sure we don't miss anything with the fix.

    Cheers,

    Hi Trevor,

Thanks for chiming in. Using the Classic View as @Richard Chester and @Buddhi Gupta suggested did the trick and I was able to resolve the offending report. (It was a trip down memory lane!)

    Thank you,
    Wendi

Is it possible to open Job directly in Classic View mode in 11.1.7? That may help in fixing broken links.

    Hi,
Another workaround (if you are admin and the job is scheduled) is to go to adminconsole->staus->schedules and edit the scheduled job there. It's the classic interface

Perfect timing. We just upgraded another environment in our SDLC and have encountered the same problem. Our DBAs encountered an issue with the SDK when the classic interface was enabled, so this is a better work around. Thanks for the suggestion! (why didn't I think of that?)

    Best,
