After upgrading to v11.1.3 , if I move a report from v11.1.3 environment to v11.1.2 environment, will the report work? Are there any compatibility issues between v11.1.3 and v11.1.2?

    Thanks,
    Vithal

    Hi Vithal,

I did an upgrate from 11.1.2 to 11.1.3 AFTER I made a complete backup (export) from my 11.1.2 environment.
Did an upgrade over my 11.1.2 environment this time.
I did not have any issue doing this.

Why do you need/want to 'move' a report from new to old (11.1.3 to 11.1.2) this make no sense does it ?
Within all versions of Cognos you will get a warning doing this.
I haven't checked with this version, but I will expect the same issue.
Sollution is to modify the XML file, but again, way do you need this, you should have the export version from 11.1.2

Right now, all tested reports in my environment are working fine after the upgrade.

    Kind Regards,

    Chris,

Thank you for the reply. We have only two regions, Development and Production.  So, When I upgrade Dev to 11.1.3 , Prod will still be in 11.1.2. Until we feel Dev is stable, we will not upgrade Production. During this time if I have to move any reports from Dev to Prod, both will be in different versions. This is the reason I am checking if anyone see an issue with moving reports from 11.1.3 to 11.1.2

    Thanks,
    Vithal

    Hi Vithal,

I understand your situation you have, but still have questions about your problem you want to solve.
(If I am sound rude to you, that's not my intention)

Why do you want to copy from a 'new' / higher version to an 'old' lower version with objects?
If you want that, it's sould like developing into Production and that 'should' not be the case, do you agree ?

    But....
With Cognos 8 till 10.2.2 I had the same issue like you have and I just 'hacked' the XML file.
When you copy your object (report) to clipboard one of the first (two) XML lines contains a version.
Compare this with your 11.1.2 and 11.1.3 and you should be good.

With Cognos 8 till 10.2.2 this always works for me.

Will this help your case ?

    Kind Regards,

    Chris

    Chris,

Thank you for the reply. Appreciate your inputs. I know report spec will have the version info and I do not want to go that route.

    Hi Vithal,
unfortunately, it's the only way; otherwise, you must develop directly in Production (and then export back in Dev) or suspend development for a while.
Some "big" organization use to have also the UAT (or pre-production) environment that should always be aligned to Prod (in this case you could develop here...).

I've got the same problem, above all with FM models, because Framework Manager that is not installed in Production (it's a choice), so I speed up the test period between Dev and Prod upgrades.

In any case, 11.1.2 use 15.1 XML spec and 11.1.3 use the newest 15.2; it means that is not possible to downgrade automatically or copy and paste report, especially if some new features are used .

Often it can be enough to change the 1st row of XML from
    <report xmlns="http://developer.cognos.com/schemas/report/15.2/
    to
    <report xmlns="http://developer.cognos.com/schemas/report/15.1/

    Bye

    Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the reply. I just want to know if 11.1.2 and 11.1.3 use different XML specs and no one from IBM product team responded to my question. Anyway , we upgraded and ran into this XML spec mismatch and I fixed the report spec to resolve it. It is not just one line but there are additional tags that I cleaned to make my report work.

    Thanks,
    Vithal
