    Hi All,

We are planning on upgrading to 11.1.4 soon and wanted to get the user communities feedback on this version.  Is it stable, what problems did you run into in upgrading to 11.1.4, other items?  Thanks.

    Hello,

We will be upgrading our Production environment to 11.1.4 soon and I'm happy to share our experience so far. Overall this release is working well and we are able to resolve 15 issues from our current version 11.0.13.

However, our testing revealed the following minor issues are introduced in 11.1.4:
    Item affected
    Description
    Notifications

New saved versions of subscriptions do not trigger the notification bell to illuminate red, even though a new notification appears in the list.

Navigation menu Custom folder with a long name no longer word wraps on the navigation menu.
Alerts Users can dismiss an alert, but it reappears when they refresh the browser or log in later. The alert will persist until a system administrator clears it for all users.

We have open support cases on the following that are suspected defects:
    • Copy and paste a query to a blank report results in a routing rule error (workaround is to select the package or data source first before pasting to the new report)
    • In our current 11.0.13 environment, when a user emails them self a report, the email comes from 'First Last <first_last@brown.edu>'. In 11.1.4, it comes from 'userID <first_last@brown.edu>'.
Support tells us there have been several variations of this kind of issue from other customers.
    Miscellaneous:
    • Migrating a report from one environment to another does not bring the routing rules with the report, so they must be set manually in each environment. Support tells us this is a feature (i.e. deliberate change to the product).
    • The new Jobs interface is a big improvement, but you can't see the step path anywhere and must use the classic view to see it.
    • Can no longer see routing rules in the package properties.

We have not done much with Explorations at this point as we are focused on existing functionality. Our data as is seems to be too complicated for Explorations to be very useful. Data modules are much improved (from our current version).

    I hope this is helpful.

    Best wishes on your upgrade!

we did the same upgrade from Cognos 10.2.2 to Cognos analytics 11.1.4

We are more facing issue in Cognos packages link. In Cognos 10.2.2, we have Package action URL, we provided this to user and they hit that and lands inside the package but in Analytics 11.1.4, it lands at location where package resided means one step up from packages inside.

could you please help here ?

I'm aware that 11.1.4 might have a indexing issue.  I personally have found the same thing in 11.1.3.  Sometimes a java.exe will get locked up and even stopping the Cognos service on the server the java process will still be running.  Only after manually killing the process can I bring up the Cognos service again.  This is the same issue a friend has seen for them on 11.1.4.  They stated that IBM fixed this in 11.1.5.  Might want to investigate this before rolling out 11.1.4 since 5 is already out.

What do you mean is it stable. There is going to be continuous upgrade and modifications to the software going forward. Any issues in prior releases are fixed as they come up. We are upgrading to CA 11.1.5 on Feb 10 from 11.1.2 after testing 11.1.3, and 11.1.4 in dev and sandbox.

Hi @Norm Johnson, just out of curiosity, why 11.1.4 and not 11.1.5?

    Thanks.

    Hi Adrienne,

We want to make sure 11.1.5 is stable.  Recently, 11.1.5 was released and it had lots of problems and we can't afford to deal with that right now.

    Hi Oliver,

Here is the message I got via email from IBM:

IBM Cognos Analytics 11.1.5 was released shortly before the Holidays in December, 2019.  Unfortunately, a short time thereafter, an issue with the display of labels in mapping was reported.  This issue was specific to running the product in certain locales, but for those locales, the issue was serious enough that we needed to take the difficult decision of recalling the 11.1.5 release.

    Hi Norm,
    Thanks for the information.
I have heard about these label issues in the first 11.1.5 release. But I guess these issues should have been fixed in the meanwhile with the re-release of 11.1.5.
New versions are always a little bit of a lottery ...., unfortunately ...

We have to decide on our existing business needs. I am testing 11.1.4 in my sandbox and it looks good except a few issues.  In 11.1.4, the data is not showing when you use data items inside the text item in the cross tab reports. The bug is fixed in the11.1.5.  Also sometimes the data may not be correct because the aggregation rule said to Yes in the query properties. But it works fine in my existing 11.0.11 version. It works fine after changed to No in 11.1.4.
Javascript ( using custom control)is also giving more trouble in 11.1.4. IBM recommends rewriting( have to modify the code) the javascript. Old version of javascript ( fine in 11.0.11)is not working in 11.1.4.
    Thanks,
    Ram

Thank you Ramanujam Rajagopal.  These are helpful comments.  It will make our transition easier if we understand the bugs ahead of time.  Thanks again.
