    Hi Folks,

does any of you managed to install PAW 2.0.6x on a windows machine with McAfee Antivirus?
There are some informations in the web that McAfee does not support docker environments.

    cheers
    Martin

    Hi,

My experience tell that you should turn off (or - better - uninstall) any antivirus software before installing PAW. There are too many problems with docker with AV turned on

MCafee started supporting docker as from 10.6.1/10.7.0
    https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB90041

For versions before that it is best to ask IT to have it disabled during PAW installs and upgrades.
Ignore that, then any errors mentioning something like "c:\ProgramData\Docker\windowsfilter" is 99% your antivirus.

Here is the generic antivirus advice for PA from IBM:

    Hi Martin,

I have managed to get PAW 2.0.57 working on Windows Server 2016 with McAfee Antivirus. McAfee only started being able to exist on the same server as Windows containers from about October/November 2020. Stefen's message contains the links detailing with versions of McAfee support containers and they will need to be patched to a very recent update.

Also in the PAW config, you will need to disable the anti-virus check when running the start.ps1, as I believe there is still a blanket check for any services called mcafee on the server.

    Thanks
    Simon

    Hi,

it would be great, if we could get an official response that this is supported from IBM (needed for our customers), or even better an official updated start.ps1 script.

    Hi,

I had already raised this as a service ticket and idea months ago to get the script updated but was just told the functionality to disable the check for McAfee already exists. Here's the link to the idea:
    https://ibm-data-and-ai.ideas.aha.io/ideas/PAOC-I-413

I would say the onus isn't really with IBM though for an official response as it isn't in their control what anti-viruses support the use of Windows container technology, it's down to the individual anti-virus providers to support container technology. A technote acknowledging that there has been a change though would certainly be helpful.
