  • 1.  Totals on Stacked Column Chart in PAW

    Posted Fri September 24, 2021 10:58 AM
    Dear folks,
Just wondering, if anyone could guide.

Right now , there is no way to display totals in stacked column chart in PAW. That's a very normal requirement. New dashboarding project we want to do out of our PAW has lot of stacked charts and users want to see Totals there..

Anyone else struggling with this missing functionality? I created below idea as well but no one has reviewed it. I am very new to IBM space so not sure how this all works! Please guide.

Have you tried 'Show value labels'? Look under Properties > Visualization then under Chart.  When this is turned on, it will expose another property called 'Value label location' which you can set to Outside end.

Might have changed in the latest version but at least as recently as 87 I think Stacked Columes didn't have the value label location option. It existed for a standard column chart which obviously was showing a total anyway and allowed you to change the location from inside the column to above it.

I think the only options which were present (for stacked chart) were whether to show a value, a % of the column, a % of the colour, or a combination. But it was always relating to the segment of the column as opposed to the total column.

I have generally been "getting around it" by providing a summary table alongside the chart or in some cases a separate chart (simple column) beside the stacked ones.

I'm not sure how new this feature is, however this seems to be solved now.
