CCC is great for what Stuart mentions - my biggest gripe however is lack of real documentation.
If you want to create a process that lists files in a folder then reads each to see if it is relevant, pass that filename as a parameter to the process to import etc. you are pretty much on your own. The samples only help so much too.
We have however got it to a point where we can schedule our meta data and data processes to check in a folder for one or more files, confirm server is up and running, then process accordingly files accordingly and email us on the outcome.

Cognos Command Center is also good option for scheduling TI processes. It has fairly advanced scheduling capabilities compared to TM1 chores. It can be used to orchestrate file movement before or after the TI process also send notifications based on the TI process status.
The solution that Scott mentioned is fairly common in my experience.

Just using TI, what you would do it create a TI process that checks if the date is the 5th of the month, if not then is uses the abort chore command. Then you would put this process at the start of your chore and schedule your chore to run every day.
There are more elegant ways if you use the API, and I look forward to hearing if anyone has prebuilt solutions.
