    Hi all

Given that the Secure Gateway has been depreciated IBM Cloud Secure Gateway Deprecation

    IBM Cloud Secure Gateway Deprecation
IBM Cloud will be deprecating the Secure Gateway product in favor of IBM Cloud Satellite.

and will cease functioning on 1st Nov 2021, has anyone been told anything by IBM about this?

Does anyone know how this will affect PA? how Cloud Satellite will work? what we will need to do to move from Secure Gateway to Satellite?

Its just over 7 months until all Secure Gateways set up will stop working and be removed, 7 months may look like a long time but at the moment there is no option in PA to connect to Cloud Satellite. Its not as if we sit around waiting for IBM to make changes that we can instantly react to and do what ever IBM say.

    Thanks

    Hi All,
The deprecation is for customers of the IBM Cloud Catalog.
Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics customers get access to Secure Gateway directly from Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics, and not from making purchases on the IBM Cloud Catalog.

The Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics team is actively working on a replacement and migration path, and we will update everyone in the near future.
For now, Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics is still sold with Secure Gateway embedded as a part of the service, and customers can continue to use it, and deploy with it.

    Regards,

    Thanks Paul,

I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear your news.  I would like to provide feedback here for if and when you do decide to deprecate Secure Gateway.

    1. It offers no immediate value to our business users.  Accessing a data lake on another cloud directly may be meaningful, but it is not a pressing issue to them right now.  They would much rather we spend our time enhancing the application to support more of their business requirements.  In their mind, if it ain't broke, why are we fixing it.
    2. I hope you won't announce availability in March with a forced suspension of use in November.  We have to overcome substantial organizational inertia to get highly complex technical things done.  In addition, November is peak budgeting support month for us.  So from first availability to forced cutover deadline date needs to be about a 2 year window.
    3. Under the plan described, in our case, you would be forcing a Windows centric IT shop to have to hire RHEL7 experience to support and manage this environment.  There will be considerable criticism that this is good for IBM, but not for our company.
    4. I agree with Paul Simon, I would much prefer that you spend your resources figuring out how to synchronize selection filters between on page views in PAW with the TI run buttons on the same page.

    Gary:

Thank you for your post: a well-articulated list of reasons for the IBM PA team to proceed with care on the Secure Gateway question.

Meanwhile I just wanted to comment on #4 in your list. I just saw this on a new features list for PA 2.0.62 - perhaps it will help?

    • Synchronize parameters for an Action button that runs a TurboIntegrator process

You can now synchronize string parameters for a TuroIntegrator process that is executed from an Action button, so the process picks up parameter values from other synchronized objects in a book.

    AG,

Thanks for noticing this.  You are correct that the action button/Ti parameter sync is available in 62.  Please note that this feature only shows up in the new experience.

The feature is accessed in the TI parameter configuration UI when an action button is used to run a TI process with parameters.

You can see that the first parameter (p1) is synchronized with member selection from the same named hierarchy in the region dimension.

The prompt user option determines if the user can validate the parameter value being passed to the TI process after they click the button.  If the prompt user option is enabled the user will see this UI when they click the action button:

In the above screenshot I selected Canada from a member selector widget in the book before clicking the button.  Note that I cannot change the member selection on the above UI.  This UI is just used to validate the value being passed to the TI parameter.

If I do not want the user to validate the parameter value being passed I can disable the prompt user option.  In that case, when the user clicks the button the TI process runs with no validation UI appearing.
