  • 1.  Not able to see databases in PAW

    Hi Community,

I have a very curious problem.
I have two virtual machines with Windows Server 2016.

I installed PA Workspace 2.0.47 on both machines.
On machine 1, I do not have any problems, everything is fine.
On machine 2, I did exactly the same, I can see all databases in PA Adminstration Tab, but when I try to create a new book, the databases view on the left side is empty (see screenshots).

Does anyone have an idea what causes this problem?
    What I already tried:
    - Uninstall PAW, reinstall PAW (a few times)
    - Turn off Windows Firewall
    - Change configuration in Adminstration Tool (e.g. Connect to TM1 Server on machine 1)

    Thank you & BR

Just a guess but are you Admin on both instances? AFAIK, first user to log in to the new instance inherits Admin privileges.  If not, you may need to log in as the Admin user and check permissions.

You don't need to be admin in the TM1 database to see it in Workspace.  This sounds like a network connectivity issue.  Both the Workspace books and Planning Analytics Admin (PAA) use the admin host URLs listed in the paw.ps1 (paw.env on Linux) file to find the TM1 databases.   PAA also looks for an PAA agent (on port 4012) on the admin host system.  I think we check for this connection even if the connection to the TM1 admin host fails or the TM1 Admin host returns no TM1 databases. The PAA agent tells PAA about the databases (provides the list of databases and status of each database).  Based on this I'm guessing that you can connect to the system running the TM1 databases from the system running Workspace on port 4012, but not the TM1 Admin Server port 5898.

    Hi Stuart,
I also thought that this could be some network issue, but even if I try to connect to the TM1 Admin Host that is on the same machine (I installed TM1 on the machine as well to test this case) I don´t see the databases. In configuration tool everything seems to be OK. (see Screenshot)
Is it possible that Docker somehow blocks the connection?

    Tim,

I suspect the non-working PAW server is outside of the private network that the TM1 server is part of?

To get that navigation tree, PAW interrogates the TM1 server directly using the IP address that the TM1 server registered with in the TM1 admin host.
So if it happens that the IP address is a private IP address, and the PAW server is outside of the private network, it can't reach the TM1 server.
It's not a problem for the admin host since it is likely on the same box as the tm1 server.

If my suspicion is correct, try setting  IPAddressV4 parameter in tm1s.cfg for each TM1 server to the public IP address of the host machine, accessible/visible from the PAW server.
Since the setting is static, restart of TM1 server is required.

    Hi Tim,

As Frederic mentioned below, what about Architect? If we take PAW away for a second, does Architect see the TM1 databases?

Also, if we're thinking that it's network related which makes sense, is there anything in the Windows Event logs which would give you a bit more info?

    Hi Robert,

yes Architect does see the databases, this is not the problem.
There is also nothing conspicious in the Windows Events....
I have resetted the machine and will have another try….

    Thank you and BR
