    Hi,

Given it wasn't covered in the August AMA I would like to know what the plans are to deal with the issue I raised here:

    Hi,

I think it would also be useful to understand the roadmap of retirement of Perspectives, as I can't seem to find this anywhere

It's challenging trying to get users across to PAfE when they know they still have the option to keep Perspectives

Could we have some info on this please

    Thanks

Hi Ajay - We don't have any short term plan to retire TM1 Perspectives from the Planning Analytics Local offering.  We will continue to support it, in maintenance mode, with Planning Analytics 2.0.9.x.   However, we can be clear about the following:

1 -  All Excel based enhancements to Planning Analytics will be targeted for Planning Analytics for Excel
2 - TM1 Perspectives will not be supported with Excel from Office 365
3 - The upcoming v12 release of TM1 Server is REST API/ODATA only.  TM1 Perspectives won't work with this version of TM1 server.

While we don't plan to remove TM1 Perspectives from the current offerings, we also won't carry over support for Perspectives to any modern Planning Analytics offerings (e.g Planning Analytics on Cloud Pak for Data).

    Hi Stuart,

Well yes, but a little more meat on the bones in regard to the longer term plan would be nice. For example, estimated timescales.

    regards,

    Hi PA team!

A quick question for you... are there any plans to add data search capabilities to PAW?  We had the intent bar for a while but I believe it was temporarily removed?  I'd love to see something like Cognos' search capabilities that search across all data sets and present matches.   This comes up come up often on RFPs and it would be great to have something we could highlight to prospective customers.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brian,

There is no immediate plan to bring back the NLP search from the Workspace classic experience.  We would like to know more about how users would expect to use this sort of feature to search content (books and views) in Planning Analytics Workspace.

The search capability in the Reports and Analysis section of Workspace is much better in the new experience.  It now provides a proper deep search of Workspace content based on content name.

We are working on a federated TM1 model search feature for the modeling experience.  This feature would allow you to search a TM1 database for any objects types that contain the search string.  For example, searching for the term 'plan' might return the following objects:

    A dimension named 'plan_department'
    A dimension named '}ElementAttributes_plan_department'
    A cube named '}ElementAttributes_plan_department'
    A cube named 'Sale plan'
A process named 'plan load actua'

    Thanks for the reply Stuart!

For the Reports and Analysis search, it would be great if it searched within workbooks as well by looking at elements contained within fields of crosstabs or visualizations.  So for example, if I search for "Revenue", I'd get a hit on an Income Statement report that contains an account called Revenue on the rows.

Sounds like the model search will be really cool.  Any chance of expanding it to include elements within a dimension as well?

    Brian,

Searching all members across all dimensions in a TM1 model isn't always going to scale.  We might consider supporting member search as an option.  I typically never search for members in the TM1 model tree.  I normally disable the 'Display members' option in the screenshot below.

What is the use case for accessing members from the model tree instead of the set editor or hierarchy editor widgets?

If we do reintroduce an NLP type search, it would make sense for it to search metadata stored in the Workspace books.  However, searching member names used in the MDX statements stored by the cube viewer might be problematic.  Keep in mind that the member names used in the MDX statements that Workspace books contain might not match the members a user is allowed to see based on TM1 security.  We could consider searching other metadata such as widget titles and labels.

Thanks Stuart.  Yea I would say if you already know the model and you're in the model tree, then using the subset editor is perfectly fine.  I was hoping for something more "global" similar to Cognos' search capabilities using the virtual assistant.   I do recognize there would be performance considerations there.  Thanks for the replies :)

    Hi,

I am trying to synchronize a PAW dashboard that has visualizations that use data from 2 different servers. I am wondering if there is a way to have all visualizations controlled by one date subset, either through MDX or a control cube or some other way, so that the users only have to choose a date timeframe once for the dashboard and all visualizations get updated. Right now I have to have 2 date subsets and they have to choose the same value from both in order for the entire dashboard to work as expected.

    Thanks

Further to this question, is there MDX that can access cube data in a different TM1 database?  e.g. I want to filter a dimension subset on MDX that looks for a control value stored on a different TM1 database.

    Hi,

Any news on the black widget borders? Several customers keep asking us about when it will be possible to hide them.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mario,

The black border issue is still very high on our list of priorities.  Unfortunately I still don't have an ETA for this.

    Hello,

Currently within Perspectives, there is the option to View Transaction Logs... which allows a user to search for a specific transaction across a specified date range. This can be searched by user or a specific intersection within a cube. We find this functionality extremely useful as it saves us from trying to search through hundreds of log files. I was looking for similar functionality within PAfE or PAW, but wasn't able to find this functionality. If it exists in PAfE or PAW, would you be able to provide guidance on where to find it? If it doesn't exist in PAfE or PAW, is this functionality that can be added?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I don't know if this functionality is technically possible to develop in Workspace but it would be great being able to reference the selected element from a selection widget (when it's dragged outside the cube viewer) in a MDX statement in the same tab/book.

    Example:
A book contains a selection widget for the organization dimension which has a hierarchy with several levels.
The book also contains two exploration widgets from different cubes, both having the organization dimension in the rows.
A user selects a consolidation in the selection widget.
Both exploration widgets should show the children of the selected consolidation.

-> This is currently possible by adding a button, storing the selection in a cube and referencing it in the MDX statement. However it comes with some downsides (PAW subset default behaviour).
    -> Preferred functionality would be to reference the (user-specific) selection in MDX on the fly like this: {[Organization].[<selected element from selection widget>].children}

I also want to share my personal list of missing functionality making me struggle to meet the clients requirements / expectations:
    - The cube viewer not being responsive
    - Lack of formatting capabilities in the cube viewer
    - The black widget borders
    - Not being able to reference selected element from selection widget in MDX on the fly, without storing the selection in a cube
    - Not being able to create custom TI error messages
    - The need to administrate users both in Workspace and the TM1 server

When I am interpreting the public roadmap correctly, most of the points I listed are included with planned delivery in Q4 2021 / Q2 2022 which is great. I am just not sure about the MDX and selection widget question I asked above.

    Thanks,
    Mario

I agree. The lack of a robust synchronization model remains paw's biggest short coming, and prevents broad adoption.

I second your list, @Mario Hasler. I strongly believe that these topics must be prioritised to give PAW a decent UX.

I also support to make PA more competitive, combined with other front-end applications rather than PAW.
