    Hi All,

Just wondering if planning analytics allows you to set up auto report distribution for dynamic reports.
We want to distribute financial reports to specific recipients on 17th day of each month..
Please let me know if that is a possibility.. Thanks you for your help!

Unfortunately Planning Analytics (PA) doesn't have automatic report distribution, for the time being only Cognos Analytics provides such functionality out of the box. That's not to say that it can't be done though with some VBA to login to PA, open the report and convert it to static, and save the file down. A powershell script could then send out the documents via a mail server. If your environment is on IBM Cloud, see this tech note: Planning Analytics on Cloud - SMTP (send email) process using Powershell script (ibm.com)

Alternatively you could look for products that have already been built to do such a job for you, some of our clients use Qubebit, but there are probably others out there.

You could always use Cognos Analytics. If you are on premise you can use CA for no additional charge as long as it only connects to TM1. If CA isn’t an option then you could use a TI on a chore to execute your commands to update your excel files and email them out.

Thank you all for your responses!
Robby, yes we are using CA as well. So are you saying that if CA is connected to TM1, we can distribute TM1 reports thru CA?
Could you please elaborate little bit on this? Appreciate your help!

    Hi Aleksandre,

To clarify on CA, you can create reports in CA based on TM1 content and burst (distribute) the CA report out, but the CA report cannot pick up TM1 generated reports. You connect to a TM1 package which will contain one or more cubes and from there you can select the elements / subsets you require. The TM1 Package can be created using Framework Manager or directly from the TM1/PA connection setup in Cognos Analytics Administration.

The only way I know to get your TM1 generated reports into CA would be to use TM1Web API and embed TM1Web with a CA report using iFrames and pass the title elements within the URL for TM1Web where applicable. This method also gives CA users write back capability but you should check if this would cause any licencing issues with IBM or IBM Partner.

Using CA can yield a more flexible UI/higher report finish but it would require significant development time, and would be a significant learning curve.

And if you're trying to set up a connection to Planning Analytics or TM1 in CA for the first time, don't forget to migrate the IBMTM1.arm (SSL) from Planning Analytics into the Java keystore for Cognos Analytics if your model uses usessl=T property, otherwise you'll just get a connection error.

    Aleksandre:

As Simon wrote, to distribute your TM1 reports with CA they would need to be rebuilt in CA. If you want to automate distribution of your TM1 reports without rebuilding them, your only options are to write your own distribution application (which you then have to maintain), or to use (as Raj suggested) ReportWORQ (which is very inexpensive).

Visit https://quebit.com/reportworq to see a video of it in action, and request a 30 day free trial.

Here is a customer case study: https://quebit.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/VHG12.13.pdf

Have you considered Quebit's ReportWORQ utility. IBM have mentioned in their AMA, that users waiting for "Print Reports" should consider the free version of ReportWORQ which has teh same functionality. The licensed version has a server component which is very powerful for generating and distributing packs using Excel templates. Distribution can be via email, slack &  sharepoint.  It works with Planning Analytics (PA) for Excel or Perspectives. You should also be able schedule reports distribution using Turbo Integrator and Chores. It works with PA on SaaS as well as On Premise. More details can be found on ReportWORQ - Enterprise Report Distribution | QueBIT.

Hi Aleksandre (and thanks to Simon for mentioning, and I just saw that Raj also responded)  - just a clarification on the company name that one option is the QueBIT product called ReportWORQ which easily integrates with PA.
