Follow up to Roadmap

    Hi,
There were a couple of omissions in the roadmap that I would just like to follow up on.

PAfE and spreading - Currently the spreading functionality is limited and the shortcuts are not supported.  I think I can see this on this Roadmap (search for spreading) but I think this is rather old.  Is this still on the roadmap?

DBRH - The community has requested hierarchy aware formula functionality since day 1 of the release of the (amazing) hierarchy functionality on the TM1 DB, I've got comms going back a number of years where it has always been just around the corner, always due for release sometime in H1 next year.

The noise on DBRH has died down recently as we had been led to believe that the much heralded DQR functionality was expected to meet this need.

From what I have seen DQR is not formula based and so isn't going to meet the DBRH need.

So is a DBRH like functionality still on the Roadmap anywhere?

    Thanks,

+1 on the DBRH formulas. I've been asking for this forever, and been promised it would be there - and now I'm being met with quizzical looks from the product team when I mention it. IMO it's key to hierarchy adoption.

    +1 on DBRH formula

Ideas have been raised in the past (PAOC-I-84) but appear to have been labelled not under consideration. The absence of these formula are preventing us from fully embracing alternative hierarchies

And I'm a little mystified that Cubewise can do it with slice (masters as they are with the rest api), and IBM can't implement it with their own product in a reasonable timescale?

+1!  I don't understand how pafe can be missing so many features that block adoption. Hierarchy formulas, spreading, UDC support and undo/redo are absolute must haves. However the product team seems to be totally surprised by their importance.

I'll try and give an example of why formula based reporting is so important,

    1. The major USP for the server side hierarchies is future proofing. As long as I include the primary dimension, I can introduce any secondary analysis hierarchies at any time in the future. So, if I have cost centre in my cube, I can include any analysis that is driven from cost centre that maybe required in the future.

    2. In order for the future proofing properties of hierarchies to be of benefit then the reporting that hangs off the cube also needs to be easy to extend and modify.

    3. Quick reports cannot be modified to introduce an extra hierarchy post build. (AFAIK, happy to be wrong here) As such they block the future proof features of hierarchies themselves.

    4. Formula based reporting could be updated to include a reference to a new hierarchy, often with a simple edit replace.

    5. All the effort in a report deck is in the layout and formatting. Formula based reporting has the bast chance of preserving the customers investment in this space.

The lack of formula based reporting means that we always have to start off from a fixed layout for a report, if a hierarchy is introduced post production of the report then we have to rebuild the report from scratch. Always needing to start from a view is very limiting.

Formula based reporting has the maximum flexibility for the end user and is a simple Excel skill (no MDX required). If formula based reporting is not part of the long term plans for the product, then we're really removing a very simple, straightforward and flexible reporting style.

And as an added incentive, the Oracle Smartview client that's a direct competitor doesn't have (or doesn't easily have) a cell-based formula, so having one that works for hierarchies would be an excellent point of difference.

I would appreciate some response from Product Management on this. I'm tired of watching the tumbleweed blow past every time this subject is raised.

    Bump 2.

Seriously, no one from IBM has a comment? Mike? Stuart? Svetlana?

Dynamic Quick Reports (DQR) will use some formulas.  It's not a formula-less report type. However, it does not have the equivalent of a DBRW block of cells used to retrieve data the same way a Perspective active form or PAfE Dynamic Report.  For example, we will have an equivalent of a subnm formula that support hierarchies.  We will also have formulas that looks up a single cell value (similar to what a DBR or DBRW does) and attribute value, that can work with all hierarchy in a dimension.

Part of the intent of DQRs is to blend the performance of Quick Reports with the flexibility (parameterization) of Dynamic Reports.  Using a block of DBRW or DBRH type formulas will not have the same performance as generating a single MDX statement (what a Quick Report does to retrieve data from TM1).

The Planning Analytics team looks forward to demonstrating the capabilities of the DQR report type.  I think a lot of Steve's requirements in comment 6 will be addressed by DQRs, and with better performance than simply adding a DBRH function to Dynamic Reports.

Look forward to this new DQR. Is there any timeline of the release of it? Thanks.

This sounds like a great feature.
    Thanks for sharing it.
I notice performance issues as dynamic reports scale but having options will be great.

Universal Reports is the new name instead of DQR, maybe out in Q3 2023.
