Several longer running scheduled Cognos reports failed with the following error:

DPR-ERR-2072 Unable to load balance a request with absolute affinity, most likely due to a failure to connect to the remote dispatcher. See the remote dispatcher detailed logs for more info.....
    error
Reports were running normal previous week

no changes were made between last successful run and failure. Our environment consists of a single Cognos server/dispatcher, so no load balancing is performed. We were able to run the reports interactively, but would fail when run in batch.

Error was resolved after a restart of Cognos services.

I was unable to find the cause of the error and want to know how it could be prevented in the future.

There are many possible causes for this error.

    1. Check the availability of batch report service process during that time. all the available batch service processes would have been used completely and no further room for batch report service processes

    2. Check the availability of server capacity during the failure time. May be the cognos server utilized with 100% available capacity
    3. may be some communication issue between content manager service and batch report service

    Hello @Heather Martin

If you are looking to get root cause analysis on your issue, I would suggest logging a case with our support team, as a review of the logs and your environment will be needed to understand the reason for the failures.

I would suggest providing the following when you open the case:
    1. Zip of the logs directory (Folder is located in the root install directory of your Cognos install)
    2. Screenshot of the error
    3. cmplst.txt file (File is located in the root install directory of your Cognos install)
    4. Date and Time when the issue occurred
