  • 1.  Data Module Metadata disappears

    Hi there,

I have a data module (against a Planning Analytics Cube as a source) that stopped working about a month ago - after being in place for roughly 8 months with no problems (over a month after we upgraded to 11.1.6).

The problem began while researching another issue - I opened the data module to look at the cube and dimensions (actually was on a webex with IBM support at the time) and the metadata tree was gone, and showing "M1" instead.  At that moment, any dashboard or report against that data module stopped working.

The source cube has not recently changed in structure.  I have tried recreating the data module, and it will appear to work initially but then it will eventually have the same problem.  Another of our developers created a test data module against the same cube, and it also worked for a day then began having the same problem.  We have  had to switch the reports and dashboards to a Framework Manager package instead as a workaround.  We saw this issue in dev (against a different PA cube) but disregarded it at the time as a problem with the cube.

I have a case logged with IBM on this issue and they continue to investigate, but I wondered if anyone in the community has seen this happen and might be able to offer some insight.

    Thanks,

    Hi Kizzy,

I had this same issue a couple of days ago with a data module. In my case the module included data sourced via data server connection, and a relational FM package. I had created this model in dev and the issue appeared after migrating it to production. The issue was with the FM package - it just showed an M5 instead of the metadata.

Within the data module I looked at the properties for the source package reference (click on the M5 > Properties > Advanced) and saw the source was now pointing to an incorrect location.  For instance, the FM package was located in Team content > Models > ABC, but the properties for the M5 source was pointing to Team content > Models > XYZ. I ended up deleting removing the package from the source view and the added it back by adding it as a new source.

I have two other active cases involving data module issues and didn't open another for this one just because I don't have enough time.

    Hope this helps some.

    Hi Kizzy,

Have you had any luck resolving this issue via IBM support?

Hi Jeremy - we ~think~ this began occurring as a result of a Planning Analytics upgrade that we eventually had to roll back due to issues with the version.  We haven't had any new data modules fail with this issue since we rolled back.  We've not really been able to prove this, but it seems logical that this is the cause.
