  • 1.  Cognos 11.1.7 upgrade problem: SACamService and camAsyncService failures

    Hi everyone,

    Following the upgrade from 11.1.6, starting the Cognos service led to these errors:

    11:14:34, 'SACamService', 'StartService', 'Failure'.
    AAA-SYS-0002 The service cannot process the request because it has not been initialized.
    AAA-SYS-0001 An internal error occurred.
    com.cognos.cclcfgapi.CCLConfigurationException: Illegal character in name: 'RSVP.EXCEL.PAGEGROUP_WSNAME_ITEMVALUE '.

    AAA-SYS-0001 An internal error occurred.
    com.cognos.cclcfgapi.CCLConfigurationException: Illegal character in name: 'RSVP.EXCEL.PAGEGROUP_WSNAME_ITEMVALUE '.

    Any thoughts on this? 

    One thing I noticed was that the original dispatcher.properties file was changed by the upgrade from this entry: 

    advancedSettings=<settings><setting name\="RSVP.EXCEL.XLS2007_COLUMN_WIDTH_CONTROL">TRUE</setting><setting name\="RSVP.EXCEL.XLS2007_ALLOW_WRAPPING_SINGLE_CELL">TRUE</setting><setting name\="RSVP.EXCEL.NUMBEREDSHEETNAMES">FALSE</setting><setting name\="RSVP.EXCEL.PAGEGROUP_WSNAME_ITEMVALUE ">TRUE</setting></settings> 

    To individual entries like this apparently wrong one: 
    RSVP.EXCEL.PAGEGROUP_WSNAME_ITEMVALUE\ =TRUE

    Manually adjusting the dispatcher.properties file didn't help. When the service started, the adjustment was overlaid with the original (wrong) entry presumably from the Content Store

    And I'm not sure if the only problem indicated by the error messages relates to the properties for the dispatcher. Testing locally in Cognos Configuration before starting the service was all successful.

    Hi,

    Did you make an over top install?

    I have migrated several versions of Cognos, until v8.2, and this never works fine.

    Did you try a new install and importing cogstartup.xml and start services?

    Hi Michael,

    Sent you a direct message with the possible workaround.

    The issue is known, a defect exist but I do not have the number at the moment, The root cause is the trailing slash in the parameter name

    RSVP.EXCEL.PAGEGROUP_WSNAME_ITEMVALUE\ =TRUE

    Since the workaround mean to "edit" the database I do not want to share this info to the public. For all who have this issue please open a case with IBM Support.

    I tried to upgrade my cognos production environment from Cognos 11.0.13(LTS) to 11.1.7. I received below error message while trying to start the cognos dispatcher/Appserver after upgrade.

    Hi,

    I upgraded from 11.1.4 to 11.1.7. I have not seen any issues except it is looking for a fully qualified domain name in the configuration settings. It is fine so far. I have not tested fully yet.

    FYI. The root cause is the space at the end of the Parameter Name. It is not the slash.
