Sorting Numbers in Visualisation categories

Hello, I've been trying to sort numbers in the x-axis of visualisation without success.  I'm not sure if this is a bug or I'm missing a setting.  I sort the numbers in ascending order which should go from -32 to 0, but the x-axis shows -1,-10,-11,-12,...,-9,0.  When using charts there's no issue at all. This seems to be related to visualisations in reporting and dashboards.
Anyone knows the setting to fix this or if this is a known bug ?

    Hello Mauro,
In cases where the automatic sorting is not performing as expected I create a new data-item in the relevant query only for the sorting and use that data-item for sorting in the visualization. I'm not sure which visualization you are using, but in the traditional charts there is the option of sorting according to a different data-item than the one shown in the visualization.
    Hope that helps,
    Ori

Visualisations cannot be sorted using a different data item. In this case, I need the numbers to be sorted in ascending order, but the output is shown in the attachment.
Anyway, I have created a new data item with the original month relative value and now the numbers are sorted properly. Many thanks for the workaround !!

You're very welcome. Glad it worked.
The visualizations that allow sorting by a different data-items are in the "Charts" category (underneath "Legacy visualizations"). If you use for example the "Clustered Line" visualization then you can sort your x-axis according to a different data-item of your choice.

I think it worked because there were numbers and I didn't sort them. As soon as I try to sort them in ascending and descending order, it doesn't work.
The charts are working fine. I found the issue with the 11.1 visualisations.  I still think it's a bug, and when using dashboards, legacy charts are not available.

Mauro Santos Otero – a couple of things to look into:

    -       Ensure that the field that populates the x-axis is a numeric data type and not a character datatype

    -       You could also perform a manual sort on the x-axis values, but not ideal if there are too many values or when new values are added to the data

While the sorting issue was resolved after updating to 11.2.2, the filtering conditions in Dashboards don't allow me to enter numeric data type conditions (the data field is an integer)

Hi, I don't have 11.2.2 yet but I experienced something similar in 11.1.7. It wasn't enough to have an integer data type in the data module but I also needed to set it to key figure instead of attribute (even though it wasn't one). In my case that did the trick.

Thanks. The data is sourced from an FWM package which I cannot change. Anyway, this is a good trick in the event of using a Data Module.

I raised the issue with IBM and the official response was that the x-axis on Line visualisations (Dashboards) cannot be filtered as an integer, which seems unintuitive since a common use could be to put "Year" in the x-axis of a line chart.
IBM proposed as a solution to use Scatter or Bubble visualisation types instead of a Line visualisation.
In my opinion, seems to be a bug that needs to be rectified asap. The line visualisation is the most common one and not being able to filter based on the data type doesn't seem to be by design.

You can also create a (dummy) Calculation for your integer Attribute inside the Dashboard. In it's Properties you can set it to Measure (without Aggregation) and use it for a slider filter. Maybe you need to use a Tab Filter.

I have been able to make this work in a dashboard when using a data module by changing a couple of properties for the data item in the data module. I set "Members" to "Enabled" and "Sort by" to the data item I want to use for sorting. I'm not sure if it will work for integers, but I know it works for month names.

Thanks, It's a framework package in my case. I am still surprised by IBM response indicating the x-axis of the line chart is for categorical data and the suggestion to use Scatter or Bubble visualisations instead !!!! Appalling support in this case.
