  • 1.  Dashboard Warning in 11.1.2 - Unable to Save

    Posted Wed August 14, 2019 10:06 AM
We recently upgraded from 11.0.10 to 11.1.2 - and with that upgrade for a few specific dashboards, we are unable to get them to upgrade and display data.  We have upgraded the dashboard, relinked the package, and it displays the dashboard.  However, as soon as we save and exit  out - it then returns to displaying a warning message.   I have seen a similar posting from April 2019 (see links below) but wondered if anyone in the group had seen anything like this.

I had a similiar issue when upgrading to 11.0.6. The dashboards would say "upgrading" then I had to save them.

A more recent upgrade to 11.1.7 does the same thing but it always says "operation failed". No matter how much I save the dashboard in view or edit mode, they won't upgrade.

operation failed is not a useful error message.

The logs have this straight after startup:

    /bi/v1/proxy/dataset-service/health is in error: 503

But I can't see any log entries that correlate with the upgrade failure.

I did some more investigation and deleted things from the dashboard until I worked out what the issue was. I have a multi tab dashboard containing every widget you can think of, using a Framework Manager relational package. It turned out that I just had to delete some text blocks, save, reopen and then it upgraded fine.

Hi Rachel, we're sorry to see you're stuck here after upgrading.

If you have not done so already, we encourage you to open a case with IBM Support. We would like to understand the conditions that exist before you encountered this issue and ensure that no other customer will encounter this in the future.

If you are looking for something to get you back in working order today, Nick's suggestion of experimenting with deleting certain widgets has worked for customers in similar scenarios. The simplest path would be to delete content, Save As your dashboard, exit, then re-open the saved copy. This can help you deduce whether any individual widget(s) or filters are causing this issue for you after upgrading. We recommend using 'Save As' instead of 'Save' so that you do not overwrite your original dashboard.

    Hope this helps.
