  • 1.  "Send the report by email" Not Showing

    Has anyone encountered a situation where the "Send the report by email" option was missing and the only option was "Send a link to the report by email" when using "Run with options? I have been a Cognos Admin for over 19 years and have never seen that. I am trying to help the company that I'm doing work for now in an entirely different role verify that their Cognos environment, which is being patched to 10.2.2.7, is configured properly because they have had so much trouble with their 10.2.2.2 environment. When I try "Run with options" for reports, I only see "Send a link to the report by email". I know the "Send the report by email" can be hidden by an entry in a system.xml file, but that entry is not present, so I don't know why we can only get the link and cannot do an attachment.

    Hi Scott, there's an according new capability in 11.1.7:

    Since you're using 10.2.2 maybe there exists something according in the old user interface profiles:

    Thanks for the response, Philipp, but this does not apply to what is happening here. 10.2.2 Fix Pack 7 has been applied and I am trying to run a report and have the results emailed as an attachment. However, I do not see the "Send the report by email" when I choose Run with options. I only see "Send a link to the report by email". Also, when trying to schedule a report, I still only see "Send a link to the report by email" and do not have the option "Send the report by email".

    Don't know if you found a solution to this problem yet.  I've just come across it with one of my users.  I found this reference to Capabilities.  Here is the link https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-remove-attach-report-output-switch-cognos-analytics-1117-and-future-releases  I haven't had a chance to try and apply it yet.  
    I'm curious if you found something different?

    In answer to my own question:  we solved the issue with permissions. Working from the new Mange > People > Capabilities on the home page and starting with the Attach Outputs capability we gave custom permissions to 'Everyone' (Read, Write, Execute, Traverse, Set policy); we did the same for the Email capability - top level -  We gave 'Everyone' custom permissions  (Read, Write, Execute, Traverse, Set policy); that takes care of all four items for the Email capability;

    We did this systematically, one change at a time, one person as admin, one set up as the typical user.  Hope this helps someone in future!
