    Hi friends,
    I was searching some articles regarding relative time measures in FM .
    I remeber an old articles on developerworks site but developerworsk site is not reachable anymore.
    What happened to all the articles and pdf on Cognos on the developerworks?
    Where can i find and consult them?

    Thanks & regards

    Magnum BI – I have played with Relative Time quite a bit and from experience, the best solution we have found is to add relative time fields into a conformed date dimension in the mart.  Please advise if you like to see a further elaboration of our implementation.

    Hi Mr Chan,from your experience would you explain me further how would be a good solution for my problem?
    I have found that Data module doesn't fulfill my situation.
    I would like to build a robust a fm package with all fields simple and ready for without doing calculation on reports.

    Thanks for your answer and your collaboration.

    Magnum BI – so what we have done in the past is to augment our Date Dimension in our mart to add additional fields, I have cut and pasted a snippet of our Date Dimension, the following are some notes:

    -          Assuming today is April 1, 2021

    -          Our date dim in this case is at the month grain.  We have it in the day grain, but for demo purposes, I decided month as the post would have been super big

    -          We then calculate and add columns Relative Year and Relative Month

    o   Note: we have many other relative fields like year, month, quarter, day, but just didn't note this

    -          Once you have these additional fields, you can add levels to an existing FM query package assuming you are creating DMR query packages.  You can also add additional hierarchies, one for standard date and one for relative date

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Leonardo

    You should be able to find the information on one of these sites.

    Leonardo,

    I have a couple older documents saved. One created by Paul Prieto and one documenting an enhancement to his approach that was proposed for another customer that needed to be able to perform relative analysis based on a selected time period. I should ask though if you have looked at the relative time feature of data modules which have improved significantly. There are still some modeling scenarios that require FM such as user lookup style data security.

    Thank you community,
    i have found the answers to my case.

    to answer to Mr  Hofstetter:
    I have tried to use data module and relative filters but the functionality of the relative time in a module is calculated based on the _as_of_date value, which uses the current date as its reference point. (i know is possible to change it but i don't have rights to access to manage area and customization)...

    My wish is I would like to select with a prompt my period base from which make all the relative calculation or filtering.
    Is it possible to substitute the _as_of_date expression with a prompt macro?
    I have tried to modify and substitute in a filter for YTD the _as_of_date expression this but gives me error.

    // This is a template expression that is used by the column property 'Lookup reference'.
    // To pass validation, the line below must remain as a comment. Do not remove the forward slashes.
    // validate: 1 = 1
    #$_this.parent.idForExpression# >=
    #queryValue($_this.parent.split.ref + '.dYear',
    $_this.parent.split.ref + '.TheDate = ' + prompt ('pDate','date')#
    AND
    #$_this.parent.idForExpression# <= # prompt ('pDate','date') #

    anyway
    Thanks !

    You are in the right place. You are here because specific IBM developerWorks forums, blogs and other Connections content have been decommissioned. This page will help you find the content you are looking for, get answers to your questions, and find a new community to call home.

    As a general point, a lot of the DeveloperWorks articles have been moved to the IBM Documentation site as well as (not surprisingly) documentation
