Thomas, i hope this was intended as a joke?
IBM has to adhere - just like any other website in the whole wide world / web - to the browser consortium and their evolving product versions.
The choice for creating web applications has huge advantages over building pure software. The only disadvantage is you must ensure compatibility with the browsers, as you no longer control the endpoint in the user interface.
At this point, you only have 4 major products: Chromium based, IE based, Mozilla based and Firefox based. If these browsers change their functionality, to security related enhancements, there is either 2 things IBM can do: - update the product to these changes; or - work with the browser developers on a temporary solution.
IE is extremely slow compared to Chrome, when using Cognos Analytics. That is the key reason why so many users adopted Chrome for Cognos Analytics. Chrome is also the #1 used browser in the world right now. I think thus that this browser should get absolute top priority for any developments within IBM.

Maybe IBM can solve this issue if they themselves develop a lightweight dedicated Cognos browser. (or buy a company who has this knowledge)
This is the only way to be independent from other software.
Maybe an idea for a request for enhancement.

Hi Wayne,
Edge and Chrome are both based on Chromium open source project and behave the exact same way. Hence pls do not raise your hopes. IE 11 is already kind of a legacy browser for MS since they are trying to position Edge as their main browser.
We have embedded cognos into our product and most of the customers use Chrome. I know from IBM support that they are trying to work on an interim fix for 11.0.13 and 11.1.7 versions but upgrading to these versions for everyone is going to be a HUGE task and this is not sustainable too. Chome updates are coming every other month now and there is no way we can take risk with our customers every time; time to rethink I guess!!! :-)

This has been a problem since we started using Cognos back in 2005. Cognos never attempted to keep up with the various browser changes and ONLY supported IE.
Though we require our users to use Chrome or Firefox for their email and all other access to the Internet, we've had to require they use IE for Cognos. Even now where IBM is trying to keep up with the ever changing browser landscape it's a fairly impossible task with both Chrome & Firefox rolling out major changes. Because starting with Cognos 11.x IBM won't make patches available it becomes a time-consuming task for we customers as well, having to open a support ticket to get the patch or have them make one.
So for the foreseeable future we will continue requiring IE 11 for Cognos. It's still available on Windows 10, you just have to search for it to then pin it to the taskbar for them. The hope is there will be a patch to support Edge Chromium and then we can switch to that (regular Edge has been quite incompatible). We've been fortunate that Microsoft doesn't make such massive changes to the browser on a regular basis!

Hi,
We are on 11.0.11 and we already see similar problems with chrome 86. Unable to create/edit/run reports with full interactivity set to Yes. Chrome 86 was released on Oct 6th. There were similar issues in 11.1.7 with chrome 85 for which IBM released an IF2. This is going to be a mess; we have hundreds of uses who are effected and complaining. There is an APAR related to this that was created yesterday - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/PH30333?cm_sp=swgimgmt-_-OCSSTSF6-_-E&mync=E&mynp=OCSSTSF6&myns=swgimgmt. With many recent events related to chrome upgrades, wish IBM stays one step ahead and check the beta versions of the browser.

Hi,
We are using Google Chrome to access Cognos Analytics 11.1.5.
This month, Chrome is pushing an update (86.0.4240.75) in which Cognos becomes unworkable.
e.g. Opening a folder in a Package by clicking on the little arrow doesn't work, switching from page design to page preview generates errors, the buttons on the prompt page stopped working, ...
Does anybody know more about this problem? Is there a workaround or fix ?
Thank you for your reply,
Stephan
