  • 1.  Cognos Analysis for Excel - Any Future Support and Upgrade Plans?

    Posted Fri April 12, 2019 12:23 PM

    Good day:

Has anyone heard anything about IBM upgrading Cognos Analysis for Excel to match the features and functionality of the latest version of Cognos Analytics? The last build version we have is 10.2.5270.3 and it still works connecting to Cognos Analytics which is great but uses all of the old 10.2 looking dialogs.

We're wondering if IB is choose to continue to provide and support this Excel plugin; it's quite useful for directly querying and extracting data. I'm curious if they're choosing to abandon it or just haven't gotten around to it as yet.

Thanks and have a good day.

    Dave

We have 11.0.8 installed and we have the Microsoft Cognos plugin installed for some users.  Not sure if that is what you mean by Cognos Analysis for Excel, the plugin works word and excel.

Our company has been using the CAFE add-in for 20 years so I think I understand your position. At IBM Think 2019 I had the opportunity to talk with Chris McPherson about the future of CAFE and was it going to be supported for Cognos Analytics. He told me that they were not updating CAFE but informed me that PAX was the future direction for IBM. Basically they were positioning PAX so that it supported Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics. Check with your support rep to make sure you get the most current version of PAX for your system requirements before you begin your testing.  Good luck.
