Planning Analytics for Excel Certificate Update - Quick Summary
What Changed: PAfE version 3.1.7 & 2.1.20 introduced a new IBM digital signature for the Excel add-in.
Why It Matters: Excel will show a security warning when it detects the new signature, even though it's from IBM (a trusted publisher). This is standard Microsoft security behavior.

What to do:
For Individual Users (Personal PC)
One-Time Action Required:
1. When Prompted: Click "Trust this add-in" when the security warning appears
OR
2. Manual Setup:
File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Publishers
Add the IBM signature

For IT Administrators (Global/Enterprise Deployment)
Centralized Options:

  1. Group Policy Deployment:
    • Deploy trusted publisher certificate via GPO
    • Push to all domain computers automatically
    • Users won't see any warnings
  2. SCCM/Intune Deployment:
    • Package the certificate with the PAfE installation
    • Deploy through enterprise management tools
  3. Registry-Based Deployment:
    • Export trusted publisher registry keys
    • Deploy via login scripts or configuration management
  4. Pre-Installation Communication:
    • Email users about the expected warning
    • Provide click-through instructions
    • Set up help desk support for questions

Impact: One-time action per machine, no functionality changes, enhanced security maintained. As part of our ongoing commitment to security, we are implementing more frequent certificate rotations. Please note that while digital signing keys will be updated more regularly, the publisher fingerprint will remain consistent across multiple key rotations, ensuring continuity and trust verification.
