As organization’s storage requirements grow with increasing data and workloads, expanding storage infrastructure can become a complex challenge. To simplify this process, IBM Storage FlashSystem introduced faster, consistent, and secure end to end automation for adding new systems to a FlashSystem grid.
FlashSystem grid enables multiple storage systems to operate together as a unified environment. With automated system onboarding, networking, operational, security and other compatible configuration settings can be automatically copied from a source system and applied to a newly added system, reducing the need for manual configuration.
Once the new system is initialized, FlashSystem securely establishes trust with the grid coordinator and adds the system to the grid. The coordinator then exports compatible configuration settings, allowing administrators to review and select the configuration groups to be imported. The selected settings are automatically applied, and a summary of the onboarding process is presented, enabling the new system to become operational quickly while maintaining consistency across the grid.

Automated onboarding lays the foundation for even simpler grid expansion. Future enhancements will focus on supporting additional configuration settings, expanding support for LDAP, MFA, and SSO, and providing greater flexibility in selecting configuration sources during onboarding.
