IBM Z OMEGAMON AI for JVM — Support for IBM Semeru Java 21 and Key Fixes in the Latest PTF

We’re pleased to announce that IBM Z® OMEGAMON® AI for JVM fully supports IBM Semeru Java 21 — from the day it was officially released, with no additional updates required to enable basic compatibility.

Now, with the release of PTF UJ97634, we’re introducing enhanced support for features that have evolved since Java 8, such as changes related to BootClassPath handling and command-line arguments. This PTF also includes several important fixes and improvements that boost overall stability and compatibility, making it a valuable update for all users.

What’s New in PTF UJ97634

- OA68069 – Improved Compatibility with Java 9 and Later

  • Fixed an issue where Command Line Arguments and BootClasspath subpanels under Environment Details workspace did not display metrics for JVMs running Java 9 or later.
  • The Collector now uses alternative methods to retrieve this information, ensuring correct display across modern Java versions.

- OA67874 – Improved Reliability and Efficiency for JVM Monitoring

  • Resolved potential program exceptions in KJJXCALL that could cause monitored JVM servers to terminate abnormally.
  • Improved memory handling in KJJ_BinaryPayload to prevent crashes in low-memory situations.
  • Fixed a memory leak in the GC agent by using thread-local storage, avoiding data corruption.
  • Corrected missing API Name and Method fields in z/OS Connect API Provider Plex View during group-level zoom.
  • Enhanced historical data views: users can now access history for completed JVM instances via a new menu option.

- OA68067 – Bookmarking Support in e3270UI

  • Introduced support for enhanced bookmarking and aliases in major e3270UI workspaces for OMEGAMON AI for JVM.

- OA68068 – ABEND S0C4 Post-UJ95226

  • Fixed a potential ABEND S0C4 in the Collector if the Java Agent service level does not match the OMEGAMON for JVM Collector.
  • Added version compatibility checks for key fields to prevent such mismatches.

- OA68072 – LDAP SSL and ClassNotFoundException

  • Resolved ClassNotFoundException using LDAP SSL connections after applying UJ96884, particularly in WebSphere environments.
  • The PMI client now correctly uses the WebSphere class loader to ensure SSL socket creation succeeds.

- OA68073 – Thread Workspace Empty After Heapdump

  • Fixed an issue where thread data was not displayed after requesting a heap dump.
  • The code was updated to ensure proper TEMA initialization before issuing JavaAgent commands.
