In today's world of cyber-attacks, bad actors pose a big threat to any business. Such attacks are not restricted to a particular industry but can affect anyone.

IBM Storage Defender is a software solution designed for Cyber Resilience. It protects your enterprise by keeping your data safe and workloads available.

IBM Storage Defender Data Resiliency Service (DRS) offers various capabilities around governance, compliance, AI-enabled early threat detection, recovery, and a centralized dashboard.

Any enterprise typically has multiple applications. Some of these applications are extremely critical to keep the business operational and are the first ones that will have to be recovered post a disruption/attack. These form what we also call the MVC (Minimum Viable Company)

There are other applications that are low priority. E.g., the supply chain business function is more important than the payroll of an organization in terms of recovery sequencing.

DRS recently introduced a new feature "Application Dependency" to prioritize and manage your multiple interdependent applications, very easily.

It enables users to construct comprehensive dependency relationships or maps, reflecting their production environment accurately. E.g., The 'Ordering' system for a business depends on the 'Inventory'. Similarly, the 'Delivery' depends on the 'Ordering' etc.

  • An application may have zero, one, or multiple pre-dependencies.
  • An application can be part of multiple dependency maps.
  • Multiple applications may have a dependency on a single application.

For each application, a priority can be defined which can be used to “order” applications at the time of recovery.

Application Dependencies
E.g., in the above diagram the root application is seen along with the multiple branch applications, showing their inter-dependencies. Priority for each application is also visible.
These relationships can be created and extended very easily with a simple and intuitive drag and drop interface on the DRS dashboard. And these visualizations provide valuable insights into how the recovery planning can be done based on precedence and sequencing.
