Delivering the AI-Ready Infrastructure that Enterprises Need
For the second consecutive time, IBM ® has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Storage Platforms. In our opinion, a place in the Leaders Quadrant reflects our sustained execution, relentless innovation, and the foresight to anticipate what enterprises need next. In 2026, IBM Storage continues to set the pace.
A strategy built for the AI-ready Enterprise
Enterprise IT leaders are navigating a set of converging pressures that don't have simple answers: ransomware threats that demand not just backup but provable recovery; data volumes growing faster than budgets and the urgent need to monetize AI without adding infrastructure complexity. No single product solves all of this — but a coherent storage strategy can. IBM has invested in building a storage portfolio that isn’t just delivering high performance but also featuring the most modern and innovative features of any storage provider.
§ Agentic integration that reduces complexity and increases decision making effectiveness
Enterprises have decades of applications, structured data, and VM-based workloads in production that cannot be disrupted even with all the pressures of modernization and AI workload abundance. Storage administrators have manually determined where workloads should run, when data should move, and how performance should be balanced. Those practices made sense when the environment was smaller. They do not scale in a world of petabytes, hybrid environments, and AI workloads. Infrastructure must become increasingly autonomous.
IBM integrates agentic capabilities to make that existing infrastructure faster, smarter, more resilient, and less expensive to operate — and to generate the cost savings that fund the next wave of transformation.
IBM’s FlashCore Module 5 drives bring quantum-safe encryption & real-time ransomware detection — security and efficiency built into the drive itself, not bolted on. FlashSystem Grid uses AI-driven workload placement to eliminate manual migrations and overprovisioning, increasing write-cycle performance by up to 5.5x1 and generating up to 40% cost savings2 by managing storage automatically with AI recommendations, business SLA’s and policies compared with competitive vendors using manual modeling.

§ Resilience rooted at the source
Enterprises require their data to be protected at the most fundamental level. It is probably the highest business need for organizations: serving up trusted data for the various AI/ML and OLTP workloads, to name a few.
IBM's FlashCore Module® (FCM5) embeds AI-driven ransomware detection directly into the hardware — operating continuously in the data path at the silicon level, independent of the software stack above it. This chip-level intelligence is designed to detect the hallmarks of a cyber-attack in under 60 seconds3 and thereby enable verifiable and immutable recovery capabilities before damage can propagate. For regulated enterprises in financial services, healthcare, and government, this isn't just a feature — it's the foundation of trust that makes everything else possible.
§ Your Data. Your AI. One Unified Platform
Data is everywhere, spread across on-premises infrastructure, hybrid clouds, devices, and business applications. Bringing it together, managing it effectively, and turning it into meaningful business outcomes remains one of IT's biggest challenges.
IBM Fusion is the modern platform for AI and containers, helping enterprises operationalize AI using trusted, sovereign data while modernizing applications consistently across hybrid environments. Built on Red Hat OpenShift, it provides a production-ready foundation that helps teams run AI where data resides while reducing complexity enterprise-wide and simplifying governance. Organizations increasingly struggle with fragmented data, infrastructure, and operations spread across multiple environments. Fusion brings these capabilities together into a single operating model. Fusion starts with trusted enterprise data and builds upward through storage, connectivity, compute, operations, and ultimately AI-enabled and agentic applications.
Deep integration with industry-leading platforms translates directly into measurable business benefits for clients. AI deployment time is cut by 70%4 through native integration with Red Hat OpenShift AI, while NVIDIA accelerated computing delivers a 30x5 boost in training throughput with NVIDIA accelerated computing for AI workloads – making Fusion not just a storage platform but an accelerator for the AI initiatives that matter most.
Storage That Evolves with Your Enterprise — By Design
Consecutive presence in the Leaders Quadrant reflects sustained, verifiable delivery of excellence. IBM has released five generations of FlashCore Module technology, each embedding new capabilities directly into flash hardware — from inline compression and encryption to AI-driven ransomware detection. IBM's open architecture integrates natively with Red Hat OpenShift, VMware, and major hyperscalers, supporting heterogeneous enterprise environments without vendor lock-in. IBM Storage is deployed across every major industry — from financial services, healthcare, and government to retail, manufacturing, and telecommunications — where the demands on data infrastructure range from the most stringent regulatory and recovery requirements to the need to move fast, scale efficiently, and power the next generation of AI-driven applications.

[3] Internal experimentation by IBM Research has demonstrated detection of ransomware within 1 minute of the ransomware starting its encryption process. This experiment was done on a FlashSystem 5200 with 6 FCMs with the 4.1 firmware load. The 5200 had 8.6.3 GA level software loaded. The host connected to the 5200 was running Linux with XFS Filesystem. In this particular case, the IBM ransomware simulator called WannaLaugh was used. Underlying system must be compatible with FCM4.1 and version 8.6.3 GA level software loaded in order to receive results obtained.
