We are proud to announce that we made the first step towards validating SAP HANA® on IBM® Power11 processor–based servers.
Customers using SAP HANA onPremises solutions on IBM® Power® E1180, can now run multiple configurations: E1180 with up to 16 cores per chip can be scaled up to 16 socket providing a stunning amount of overall 256 cores and supporting up to 32TB memory. A significant enhancement over previous generations is that Power11 supports SAP HANA in SMT-8 mode!
Customers with a requirement of more than 32TB memory, may refer to our Scale-Out solutions: We support 2-node scale outs for mixed workloads (e.g., SAP S/4HANA®), providing an overall amount of 512 cores on 32 scale out sockets and 64TB memory in SMT-4 mode. In addition, customers running OLAP workloads (e.g., SAP BW/4HANA®) get support on up to 4 nodes, i.e., an overall amount of 1024 cores on 64 scale out sockets with 128TB memory. Note that this solution not only comes for SMT-4, but is also eligible for SMT-8.
Moreover, Power11 supports several well-known IBM® Power® features that customers came to know and love over the past years: First and foremost, SAP customers may operate up to 32 LPARs on E1180 systems - twice as much as on previous generations. Other features are virtualized shared processor logical partition (SPLPAR), adding removing resources to LPAR dynamically (DLPAR Memory), Live Partition Mobility LPM, as well as IBM's non-volatile memory solution vPMEM. (For more information on our features, see our virtualization best practices guide)
The supported IBM Power processor–based systems are listed in the SAP HANA® Hardware Directory.
