IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition - Package Name Change Notification

By PAUL AROCKIAM posted Wed February 18, 2026 10:26 AM

We wish to notify the following changes in the packaging names of IBM® Semeru Runtime Open Edition (all versions) starting with the release of IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition v26.0. This change in packaging names will carried forward starting with 2Q26 quarterly update releases of IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition (8.0.492.0, 11.0.31.0, 17.0.19.0, 21.0.11.0, 25.0.3.0 and 26.0.1.0). If you have automated scripts in place that processes these package names to update IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition for security fixes, they may need to be updated for the new naming convention of IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition packages.

As mentioned in the Getting Started page of IBM Semeru Runtimes, the package names of IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition currently uses the following format:

ibm-semeru-open-<jdk|jre>_<architecture>_<operating system>_<openjdk level>_openj9-<openj9 level>.<extension>

For example: the IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition for Linux® on 64-bit IBM POWER® systems (little endian), Java version 11.0.30 build 7, has the following package name: ibm-semeru-open-jdk_ppc64le_linux_11.0.30_7_openj9-0.57.0.tar.gz.

Going forward, the package names of IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition will use the following new format (that is consistent with IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition package names) as follows:

ibm-semeru-open-<jdk|jre>_<architecture>_<operating system>_<semeru version>.<extension>

For example, the IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition for Linux® on 64-bit IBM POWER® systems (little endian), Java version 11.0.30 build 7, has the following package name: ibm-semeru-open-jdk_ppc64le_linux_11.0.30.0.tar.gz.

Note that the package naming convention previously included the OpenJDK version with build number. The new naming convention, however, includes a Semeru Runtimes version string that is based upon but independent of the OpenJDK naming convention. In particular, the OpenJDK build number will no longer be included in the version string and will be replaced by a Semeru Runtimes specific patch number. This change more clearly distinguishes releases that differ in any component level (OpenJDK, OpenJ9, OpenJCEPlus, or others).

This change simplifies adoption / migration between the two editions by establishing a consistent package naming convention as well as a consistent versioning scheme.
