Connecting Impala to IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) and Building a Sample Flow

By P VENKATA SUBBA REDDY posted 02/21/26 02:51 AM

This guide walks through configuring Cloudera Impala with IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) and creating a simple message flow to retrieve data from an employees database.

Prerequisites

  • IBM App Connect Enterprise V12.0.11.0 installed on Linux

  • Installation path: /home/pvsreddy/ace-12.0.11.0

  • Cloudera ODBC Driver for Impala

Step 1: Prepare ODBC Configuration Files

Point ACE to the ODBC configuration files:

ACE provides templates for odbc.ini and odbcinst.ini. Copy them to a working directory (e.g., /home/odbc/):
cp /home/pvsreddy/ace-12.0.11.0/server/ODBC/unixodbc/odbc.ini /home/odbc/odbc.ini
cp /home/pvsreddy/ace-12.0.11.0/server/ODBC/unixodbc/odbcinst.ini /home/odbc/odbcinst.ini
Set group ownership to mqbrkrs:
chgrp mqbrkrs /home/odbc/odbc.ini
chgrp mqbrkrs /home/odbc/odbcinst.ini

Step 2: Configure odbc.ini

Point ACE to the ODBC configuration files

Define the ODBC Data Source Name (DSN).
Example: IMPALADSN pointing to Cloudera Impala:

[ODBC Data Sources]
IMPALADSN=Cloudera with Impala ODBC datasource

[IMPALADSN]
Driver=/opt/cloudera/impalaodbc/lib/64/libclouderaimpalaodbc64.so
Host=10.10.10.10
Port=21050
AuthMech=1
KrbRealm=YOUR_REALM
KrbHostFQDN=YOUR_FQDN
KrbServiceName=impala
TransportMode=Binary
SSL=1
CAIssuedCertNamesMismatch=1
TrustedCerts=/path/to/CAroot.pem
SSLTrustStorePwd=xxxx
Database=default
AutoCommit=1
ReadOnly=1
UseNativeQuery=0
IgnoreTransactions=1
RowsFetchedPerBlock=1

[ODBC]
InstallDir=/home/pvsreddy/ace-12.0.11.0/server/ODBC/drivers
UseCursorLib=0
IANAAppCodePage=4
UNICODE=UTF-8

Step 3: Configure odbcinst.ini

Point ACE to the ODBC configuration files:

[ODBC]
Trace=no
TraceFile=/home/pvsreddy/odbc/odbctrace.out
Threading=2

Step 4: Set Environment Variables

Point ACE to the ODBC configuration files:

export ODBCINI=/home/odbc/odbc.ini
export ODBCSYSINI=/home/odbc

Step 5: Create Security Identity

Source the ACE profile and set database credentials:

. /home/pvsreddy/ace-12.0.11.0/mqsiprofile
mqsisetdbparms BRK120110 -n odbc::IMPALADSN -u cloudera -p password

Restart the broker after setting credentials.

Step 6: Validate Connection

Test connectivity with mqsicvp:

mqsicvp BRK120110 -n IMPALADSN

Step 7: Build the Employees Message Flow

The flow retrieves employee data via HTTP.

Nodes used:

  • HTTP Input Node → Receives requests

  • Compute Node → Executes SQL query

  • HTTP Reply Node → Returns response

Configuration:

Create Employees Message Flow:

HTTP Input Node → Set Path suffix for URL to /employees

Compute Node → Set Data source to IMPALADSN (ensure consistency with DSN name)

Compute Node ESQL Example:

Save, deploy, and execute the flow.
