As a mentor and advocate, she drives development programs for new talent and co-founded the New to Z chapter for Australia and New Zealand, creating inclusive spaces for learning and connection. Ruth’s journey reflects her belief that mainframe is not just a career—it’s a community.

IBM Z and Project Glasswing Build Resilience for the AI Era
For decades, IBM has secured the systems the world depends on, from mainframes processing global financial transactions to the open-source platforms and hybrid cloud environments at the core of critical industries in more than 175 countries. As attackers use frontier AI to accelerate every phase of the attack lifecycle, from reconnaissance to vulnerability discovery to exploitation, IBM is pairing its deep experience with a new generation of defenses built for the AI era.
Project Glasswing extends these efforts, uniting a coalition of security and technology leaders committed to protecting essential infrastructure and sharing findings across industries. As part of Glasswing, IBM has been identifying and remediating vulnerabilities in widely used software and sharing those findings with the broader community.

IBM Brings z17 Mainframe to Ireland’s Next Generation of Talent
IBM has announced an €11.5 million technology investment at South East Technological University (SETU) in Ireland, including an IBM z17 mainframe, as part of IBM’s 70th anniversary celebrations in the country.
Through this initiative, students in computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, data, and AI will gain hands-on experience with the same enterprise technology that powers approximately 70% of global transactions by value.
This investment helps strengthen Ireland’s future talent pipeline by equipping students with real-world enterprise skills and ensuring a strong, highly skilled talent pool for the future of technology.
