IBM Champion Spotlight: @Hamid Khan
This month, we are proud to feature Hamid Khan, Sr. Manager of IBM Power & Mainframe Systems at FICO, in our IBM Champion Spotlight series. Recently named an IBM Champion, Hamid views this recognition as both humbling and motivating — a symbol of belonging to a community that values expertise, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.
Hamid’s passion for IBM Z shines through, particularly when speaking about his experience with the IBM z16. He highlights its resilience, robust security, and innovations such as quantum-safe cryptography as proof that mainframes are not just legacy technology, but remain a critical foundation for modern, mission-critical workloads.
When it comes to advocacy, Hamid is energized by community engagement and knowledge-sharing. He enjoys connecting directly with peers through speaking opportunities while also contributing to forums that enable ongoing collaboration. With more than 18 years in technology, he sees this as a way to “pay it forward,” drawing from the guidance and mentorship he has received throughout his career.
One accomplishment that stands out for Hamid is leading a team of engineers through complex system transformations without business disruption. He credits this success not only to technical skill but also to the trust, collaboration, and alignment of diverse teams working toward a common goal.
If he weren’t in technology, Hamid believes he would pursue teaching or mentoring — a role that allows him to break down complex topics and help others succeed. It’s no surprise, then, that his advice to those just starting a mainframe career emphasizes curiosity and confidence. He encourages newcomers to embrace the platform’s hybrid cloud and modernization opportunities, and to see mainframes as an innovative space full of possibilities.
Recently, Hamid attended the IBM Mainframe Council, where discussions on ZOPD certification, sustainability, and the future of Mainframe offered valuable insights and networking opportunities. Looking ahead, he is excited for IBM TechXchange, where he plans to learn from thought leaders, explore quantum-safe advancements, and bring back actionable strategies for his team at FICO.
Hamid exemplifies the spirit of the IBM Champion program: driving innovation, sharing knowledge, and uplifting the broader community. We are excited to celebrate his contributions and look forward to seeing the impact he continues to make across the IBM ecosystem.
