As organizations move AI from pilots into production, many are finding that the real constraint is not compute but data. Fragmented datasets, duplicated pipelines, and constant data movement between storage and GPUs slow progress, increase costs, and complicate governance.

With IBM Storage Scale 6.0.1, IBM continues to strengthen its softwaredefined data platform for AI, highperformance computing (HPC), analytics, and modern data architectures. Storage Scale software provides a global, distributed file and object data layer that runs across customer infrastructure, hybrid cloud, and containerized environments, helping organizations align data placement with regulatory and business requirements.

At the same time, IBM Storage Scale System 7.0.1 delivers these software advances in IBM Scale System 6000, delivering highperformance hardware, validated configurations, and lifecycle support.

A Strong Software Foundation for AI

Storage Scale is known for:

  • A massively parallel file system optimized for high concurrency and throughput;
  • Shared access to structured, semi‑structured, and unstructured data across file and object protocols;
  • Global data abstraction (active file management) that allows applications to access data regardless of location or format.

Building on this foundation, Storage Scale 6.0.1 focuses on three priorities: AI readiness, scalable performance, and operational efficiency. As environments grow, Scale 6.0.1 improves efficiency without sacrificing performance through continued optimization for mixed AI, analytics, and HPC workloads, and support for larger erasurecode layouts (16+2P / 16+3P) to improve usable capacity at scale.

Storage Scale 6.0.1 also simplifies day-to-day operations with improved Active File Management (AFM) and protocol utility node operations, and a unified upgrade experience across onpremises, hybrid, and systembased environments.

From Data Platform to AI Data Platform: Scale System 6000 AIDP

Traditional AI architectures rely on copied datasets and batch ETL (extract / transform / load) pipelines. At scale, this leads to stale data, governance gaps, and performance bottlenecks. The new IBM Scale System 6000 AI Data Platform shifts the focus from moving data to activating data in place.

Scale System 6000 AIDP activates data where it lives by integrating three layers into a single, productionready architecture:

  • IBM Storage Scale System 6000 as the shared, highthroughput system of record;
  • IBM Fusion ContentAware Storage (CAS), which processes files in place, generating metadata and vector embeddings while staying aligned with enterprise permissions;
  • NVIDIA GPU acceleration for preprocessing, embedding generation, retrieval, and inference.

Together, these layers allow AI pipelines to operate on live, governed enterprise data without duplicating datasets or rebuilding ingestion pipelines.

Scale System 6000 AIDP is built for realworld AI operations, with zerocopy access to enterprise data, highperformance retrieval for RAG and agentic AI workloads, and scalable, multitenant operation with consistent governance and security. Together, these capabilities make it a practical foundation for moving from AI pilots to AI factories.

Storage Scale System 7.0.1: A high-performance integrated solution

For customers who prefer an integrated approach, IBM Storage Scale System 7.0.1 delivers a fully integrated solution combining:

  • Storage Scale software;
  • Highperformance NVMebased hardware and expansion options;
  • Validated configurations for AI, analytics, and HPC;
  • IBM system integration and lifecycle support.

Activating Data for AI

Whether deployed as software or as an integrated system, IBM Storage Scale 6.0.1 strengthens the data layer beneath modern AI. Storage Scale System 7.0.1 makes those same software innovations easier to adopt and scale in production. Together, they help organizations move beyond managing storage to activating data for AI, with an architecture that supports evolving data sovereignty and compliance requirements.

Storage Scale 6.0.1 is generally available today; Scale System 7.0.1 will be generally available on June 26th, 2026. Availability within a region is subject to local legal requirements.
