IBM & Predatar join forces to deliver Proof of Recovery.

By Matthew Smith posted Wed March 11, 2026 07:04 AM

Earlier this week at the IBM Storage Strategy Days 2026 in Ehningen, Germany, I spoke about the future of IBM Storage Defender Data Resilience Service (DRS), and a new partnership with Recovery Assurance Innovator, Predatar.

Integrating DRS with Predatar Cyber Recovery Orchestration (CRO), will allow us to deliver complementary benefits across both products, giving businesses something critical that has been missing. Proof of recovery.

Where once, well-documented recovery plans, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and recovery guarantees were enough to give regulators and executives the reassurance they wanted – now they are demanding more. And rightly so.

For too long, business recovery has been a gamble, with IT teams facing the prospect of bringing back complex applications and services in a crisis, with their fingers crossed. There is no room for hope when it comes to business continuity.

IBM Storage General Manager, Sam Werner explains:
“When I’m talking to customers, they talk about their concerns in operational resiliency. What happens if there is a disaster? But even worse, what happens if a cyber-attack happens? Will I be able to recover? Will I be able to recover within my SLA? Most people have Recovery Guarantees from their vendors that say they’ll be able to recover. But have they really tested it? That’s the big question.”

Big question. No answer.
As Sam highlights, the big question is all about proof. If you haven’t tested your recoveries, how can you be certain they will enable you to recover your business functions when you need them to.

And it’s not just about testing files, databases or even servers, it’s about validating that whole applications and services will come back. These are the applications and services that your business functions run on, but the fragmented nature of infrastructure in modern businesses means that achieving this validation is a huge challenge. In fact, it’s one that no storage vendor has solved. Until now.

Why wait?
Later this month, with the 2.1.2 version of IBM Storage Defender DRS, you’ll be able to launch into the Predatar CRO.  Over the next few months, we’ll be building on this, combining the best parts of both products to deliver a deeper integrated experience.  This new experience will ultimately allow you to identify the applications and services that support your business functions, detect any threats compromising them, and repeatedly validate recovery points in an isolated clean room environment.  Overlaid with holistic governance that ensures backup and testing happens frequently, this gives the c-suite the proof they’re looking for.  Proof that the critical parts of the business can be quickly recovered, with minimal down time.
