Based on the new Telum-II processor, IBM is not only expanding the functionality of the new Z17 system but also enabling a significant performance boost for AI operations. The IBM Spyre Accelerator card, featuring 32 AI accelerator cores and expected to be available later this year, will provide additional AI computing capabilities that complement the Telum-II processor. The integrated Watsonx AI Assistant rounds out the solution on the software side.
With these developments, IBM is clearly demonstrating to its competitors that the IBM Z System is unquestionably one of the absolute technical leaders, perfectly positioned to meet new customer requirements.

On the one hand, this provides an opportunity to further integrate the Z environment with other ecosystems, such as Linux or the web, and thereby create even better solutions; on the other hand, it makes it easier for us to get young people excited about this wonderful platform. Well-known software such as VS Studio Code, integrated AI assistants, languages like Java, and solutions like Open Telemetry—to name just a few—are exactly what make it easier for us to inspire young people to embrace this platform and help them experience quick successes.
At this point, it’s also worth mentioning the announcement of the availability of a rack-mounted Z17, which provides greater deployment flexibility, making it easier for organizations to integrate AI, automation, and security innovations into their existing IBM Z environments.
