From Match 360 to IBM Master Data Management: A New Era Begins with Version 2.3!

By Lin Alzein posted Fri February 06, 2026 02:48 PM

IBM is excited to announce that IBM Match 360 is rebranding to IBM Master Data Management (MDM) as the next evolution of the IBM InfoSphere Master Data Management product, bringing forward its proven concepts and trusted capabilities.  This change reflects IBM’s commitment to delivering a unified, cloud-native, machine-learning-powered solution for managing trusted data across the enterprise.

Why MDM Matters Today

Data is the foundation of every business decision, customer interaction, and compliance process. Yet, organizations often struggle with fragmented, inconsistent, and duplicate records across systems. Poor data quality leads to inefficiencies, missed opportunities, and regulatory risk.

IBM Master Data Management solves these challenges by:

  • Break down data silos:  Uses ML-powered matching to unify data across silos, creating trusted 360° views of entities.

  • Unravel complex data relationships: Identifies and manages relationships across entities to build complete, connected views

  • Enforce data governance & stewardship: Provides built-in stewardship tools with audit trails and ML guidance for match decisions

  • Deploy with scalability & performance: Deploy on a SaaS or hybrid-cloud-based, scalable architecture optimized for speed and agility

What’s New in V5.3?

1. Historical Data for Entities, Records, and Relationships

Understanding how data evolves is critical for compliance and analytics. The new historical data feature allows you to:

  • View the history of each entity, record, and relationship in your master data for over time data quality and to meet auditing requirements

  • Compare historical attribute values to the current version with point in time views

  • View details of whether events were initiated by a user, source system, or linkage actions

Why it matters:
Data stewards will have full visibility into how entities, records, and relationships have changed over time, enabling compliance, audit readiness, and deeper insights for data quality and analytics.

2. Fully Edit Entities with Control

Data stewards now have greater flexibility to maintain accuracy:

  • Manage critical data through the ability to edit any of an entity's attribute values, even if the original value was derived from the entity's member records by applying attribute composition rules

  • Easily identify the attributes that were input by a user/steward with “User Override” label, and coinciding data history event to track these changes

  • After a data steward overrides a composite value, the user-defined value will continue to be maintained even if the composition of the entity changes for permanence and accuracy

Benefit:
This feature delivers control, accountability, and permanence, enabling organizations to maintain trusted, high-quality master data.

3. Configure Potential Match Workflows

Duplicate records can undermine trust in data. The new task dashboard simplifies stewardship:

  • Use the new task dashboard to configure a potential match workflow for each entity type in your data model quickly and easily

  • In addition, easily identify potential duplicates within sources with new search parameters, for better data quality

 Impact:
It enables data stewards to quickly configure workflows and detect duplicates across sources, improving data quality, reducing redundancy, and strengthening trust in enterprise data.

4. Explore Group and Hierarchy Types

Complex organizations need visibility into relationships

  • Dive into more details of each hierarchy and group type, including who created the type, when they created it, and a list of all group or hierarchy instances by given data type.

  • Navigate directly from the data types page to the workspace view to manage each hierarchy and group instance, to then view and manage member entities and records of each instance

Use Case:
This enables easier exploration and management of the group and hierarchy types set up within the data model. For example, retailers can manage product bundles and category hierarchies more effectively, while financial institutions can maintain accurate corporate structures for compliance.

Why IBM MDM V5.3?

IBM MDM delivers greater transparency, flexibility, and control all within a modern, cloud-native architecture. Whether you’re focused on compliance, operational efficiency, or customer experience, these enhancements and new capabilities help you achieve trusted data faster.
