IBM Announces Gen8

Have you ever had something go wrong at your home in the middle of the night? Mine was a few years ago when I awoke on a chilly winter morning to find that I had no hot water. Not only that, but my water heater, thankfully in the basement, was leaking on the floor. I hired a plumber who was able to fix both within a few hours, but the more important question is “Why did that happen?” The answer is that I had turned my attention away from my house’s plumbing because it had performed so well for so long. I did not notice that the water heater was past its useful life and that it was time for an upgrade.

This is often the case with SAN. It works so well for so many years that we forget how essential that technology is to providing the necessary connectivity between storage and servers in our data centers. On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, IBM announced its Gen 8 b-type SAN technology. Gen 8 SAN is closed to intruders by design with Quantum-Safe Security built into the architecture. This is AI-Powered autonomous core infrastructure that enables today’s powerful servers and storage devices to connect with integrity and purpose. This is technology that lets you sleep at night while others worry about bad actors, or simply old infrastructure without these new protections, that can rob you of your peace of mind.

As you think about your core infrastructure and operations, protect yourself from an ugly wake up. Lay the groundwork for a high-performance, AI-Powered, Quantum-Safe data center by standardizing on and deploying IBM’s new Gen8 128Gbps b-type SAN technology.
