As a new user to OMEGAMON e3270Ui review these overview items to jump start your use.   No need to be worried about how to use this UI as you can learn a few simple items to help you get going.  

First logon to the OMEGAMON e3270UI by entering LOGON APPLID(your OM ID) in your 3270 session.

Enter your zOS UserID and Password as the first step.  First screen up may look something like this.  Now do not panic with thoughts of what to do next.

Lets first find the HELP information.  This will be your friend to everything e3270UI.  On the top line go to the far right and click on Help.  Enter 'h' to go to the HELP contents menu item.

Here you get the whole set of e3270UI HELP contents.  You can find almost anything you need on e3270UI in the HELP contents.  Our goal is there is no need for a user manual as everything you could need is here in the Help contents.  There is also a Find:  function to search the HELP Contents.

Lets select Help for "icons" to understand general scroll functions used in the e3270UI.

First are Subpanel manipulation icons you can use.

Next lets go across the top options just to see what the major pulldowns can take us to.

First look at Edit Pulldown:

This allows access to Situation Editing, Object Editing,  Changing Workspace Displays,  setting up first workspace and your Preferences.  Lets not worry about these functions now, only know that Edit allows access to these.

Next lets look at the View Pull down.  Gives you access to Bookmarks,  Workspace source, Memory Listing, History Configuration, etc.  Again lets not worry about these today.

Lastly here is the Navigate pull down.  This allows quick navigation to OMEGAMON product areas like Db2, CICS, zOS, MQ, etc.

Next lets look at the bottom of the display and to the right side. 

Here you can see the HUB information - showing the location and platform for the current HUB being used.  RSC3 LPAR on zOS for this HUB.

Then there are pushbuttons to quickly get HUB information,  or NAV for Navigation (like on the pull down menu),  SIT for the Situation Editor. etc.

The Seach Pushbutton allows searching the whole e3270UI OMEGAMON set of information for items you want to locate.

Now that we have touched all the controls, we are ready to start finding some OMEGAMON metrics.  Push the z/OS tab for a list of Sysplex and LPARs.  Put a slash for CF and XCF workspaces.

Back to the top first workspace TAB for your zOS systems.  Put a / on a Sysplex name and you get this pulldown menu.  If you enter "C" you get a workspace.

 "C" will get you Coupling Facility and XCF information.

 

The easy-to-use TABs take you to other workspaces like XCF Groups, etc.

Now put a / on RSB6 LPAR for the menu of LPAR information.  Enter "M" for Memory workspaces.

Here is the RSB6 LPAR System memory overview information. Some Common usage, Real Memory overview, Dedicated Memory, etc.

If you click the Virtual Memory TAB you get the detailed Virtual Memory usage on RSB6.

Now lets go back to the first workspace.

Let's see another example of the E3270UI use and how we navigate to real information we can use.

We see in the Events TAB on RSPLEXL2 an event called JES_Spool_Allocated_Pct_Crit.  We know JES2 Spool issues can impact an LPAR.  So lets drill down and learn more about that event.  We see the input area below the line and we can enter "/"  to get a pull-down menu of options

From the pull-down we can get the Event Details for the JES2 Spool Critical spool event that is currently OPEN.  Lets enter "V" for the details.

From the details we see the Event started on July 18 at 11:23:04 with Spool at 75% full.  The growth since then shows it currently at 99% full.  We have a real JES2 Spool full issue that we need to address to keep the LPARs running.

So now you are ready and can start using E3270UI to monitor your zOS systems.
