IBM Power E1180 2-Node SAP HANA OLTP Scale-Out configurations now supports SMT-8

By Jim Nugen posted Tue April 28, 2026 07:54 AM

Following our recent milestone with SAP HANA® on IBM Power11®, we are excited to announce a further enhancement to our scale‑out offerings: E1180 SAP HANA 2‑Node Scale‑Out configurations now support SMT‑8, enabling eight threads per core and extending the previously available SMT‑4 support. This advancement increases the effective capacity of the system by unlocking higher thread‑level parallelism and more efficient core utilization, enabling greater compute density per scale-out node.

With SMT‑8 now enabled for E1180 SAP HANA 2‑Node Scale‑Out, customers can run larger workloads, support more users, or consolidate additional workloads on the same hardware footprint, while continuing to benefit from the scalability and resiliency of IBM Power for SAP S/4HANA mixed workloads. This support is already reflected in SAP Note 2188482 which provides the latest information for validated configurations and supported features for SAP HANA on IBM Power11 processor–based servers.
