My Role (and How I Got Here):
I started out as an assembler programmer and now work as a development manager. My journey to the mainframe was shaped not only by my direct work, but also by my constant interest in new things and the people I’ve worked with over the past nearly 35 years.

Throughout this time, I’ve always been driven not only to work with the latest technologies on Z, but above all to integrate this platform with other environments—whether Unix, Windows, the web or the cloud.

How Being an Advocate Changed My Career (or Changed Me):
Becoming a mainframe advocate didn’t just add to my experience—it accelerated my growth.

It helped me:

• To build confidence in my knowledge and skills and thereby be able to share them with others.
• To recognize that you must always keep the big picture in mind.
• Never forget that, despite all the enthusiasm, the z platform is not an island. Looking beyond it and connecting this world with others is the key to success.
• No matter how much you know, you can always learn something new from someone else.

A Moment That Stuck With Me:
Those moments when you sense the gratitude of others whom you’ve been able to help with your knowledge, thereby becoming part of their very own personal success.

What I’m Known For (or Building Toward):
As an advocate, (I hope) I’m becoming known for:

• Always be patient and open to questions
• Help others with my experience and ideas
• Explain complex topics in an understandable way without getting lost in the details
• Always stay focused on a practical approach
• Enjoy sharing my knowledge with others

My Favorite Way to Advocate:
The way I most enjoy advocating is by mentoring others. I really enjoy working as part of a team and working together directly and personally is not only the most fun, but it also helps both of us move forward. In the end, we achieve success together.

 
What Keeps Me Excited About This Space:
Seeing how many others also believe that a strong community helps everyone achieve greater success is a wonderful thought. It’s what keeps me engaged and growing.

Advice for Future Advocates:
No matter how long you've been working or how much experience you have, there's always something you can use to help others. Don't be afraid to support others.  

Always believe that together, we can achieve so much more than we can alone.
