Today I'm thrilled to announce that you can now find the GitHub Actions for IBM Power, IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE by searching on GitHub Marketplace!
In open source, making it as easy as possible for projects to find your tools is key. And increasingly, the place open source software maintainers go to find what they need isn’t a blog post, a conference talk, or even documentation, it's the tools built directly into their workflows and today that includes searching in GitHub Marketplace.
That's why the arrival of GitHub Actions for IBM Power, IBM Z, and LinuxONE in the GitHub Marketplace is such an important milestone for our ecosystem.
Meeting Developers Where They Already Are
Since the launch of our GitHub Actions service last year, we have largely relied on intentional engagement. Developers had to not only know about these hardware architectures, but care about them, and invest time to learn about the possibilities for integrating them into their workflows.
For open source projects residing on GitHub, GitHub Marketplace is increasingly where CI/CD integrations are discovered, evaluated, and adopted. By making IBM Power, IBM Z, and LinuxONE available there, we’ve placed these platforms directly into the flow of modern software development.
Nothing will change for our existing users, and the on-boarding procedure remains the same.
New to IBM Z, LinuxONE, and Power? Welcome!
For projects who are new to building for architectures beyond x86_64 (and perhaps arm64), let’s chat!
To learn more about GitHub Actions service, you can check out our on-boarding document which explains the steps for installing the app on your project. We also have a document that answers Frequently Asked Questions about the service. Once we have some paperwork out of the way and the app is installed on your repository, it's as easy as adding one of the supported images to your GitHub Action workflow.
Not quite ready to add CI to your project? Most projects begin with testing builds with QEMU, and the following resources will help you get started with building your project on IBM Z, LinuxONE, and Power on actual IBM hardware:
Whichever path you take, we hope to hear from you soon!
This is part of our 1.3 release of the GitHub Actions service. Learn more about other improvements by visiting this blog post: Announcing Version 1.3 of GitHub Actions for IBM Power, IBM Z & LinuxONE.
