IBM FlashSystem.ai, yes it really is that cool!

Where to begin with IBM FlashSystem.ai, well, in the event you did not get a chance to watch our launch event in February of this year, we talked about AI-Driven Dynamic Storage and a big part of that is our introduction of IBM FlashSystem.ai. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to try to give you an introduction around what you can do using IBM FlashSystem.ai and how I see people using it. To start things off, I thought its best to do a baseline for us with 3 simple elements.

What is it?

FlashSystem.ai is an AI driven assistant that enables natural language administration of IBM FlashSystem storage. Administrators can request information or complete supported configuration tasks through plain language instructions in the management GUI. The assistant analyses the request, asks for any information required to complete the task, and performs supported operations only after explicit user approval. This approach ensures that full administrative control remains with the organization.

What does it look like?

Well, here’s a quick example to take a look at titled Watch Storage Manage Itself: The FlashSystem.ai Revolution! (Provisioning Demo). Yes, this is exactly what you’ll see! How do I provision using natural language with human-in-the-loop approvals!

I want to know more, what can you show me?

That’s easy! Here’s a chance to take a look at the most recent webcast we’ve done on the topic. It was called Your Storage Virtual Assistant - FlashSystem.ai.  Byron and Matt had a great session on exactly this topic, and I really like that they talked about managing not just 1 IBM FlashSystem but your whole fleet and makes it simple to work across your IBM FlashSystem grid.

Where do I find more, I need the documentation Chris! Well, that’s easy, here’s the quick link for the documentation for running IBM FlashSystem.ai.

I’ve got it running on one of the IBM FlashSystems that I work with, and more to come on that in the next blog, but this is what it looks like!

Question for FlashSystem.ai;

Can you create a table for me of all the hosts and the Volume mappings; include which have  a Safeguarded snapshot policy attached?

What you might notice is that you can see the steps or “reasoning” that FlashSystem.ai is using to give me the answer!

Now the answer! (I expanded the window) and I can download the table if I want to!

Wait, hang on Chris, does this touch the cloud?

Why yes, yes it does, but not in the way you might be thinking! All the activities (which are human-in-the-loop approved) are done ‘on-prem’. Yes, on-prem. It does use your IBM Storage Insights instance that you're using today to analyze your historical performance and capacity information you've already been sending. That’s right, there’s no new connection to the cloud Everything else is on-prem and all the actions require human approval!

By the way, in case you are wondering, what languages can I use working with IBM FlashSystem.ai, well; FlashSystem.ai supports natural language interaction in: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Italian, Dutch, Russian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, and Korean!
