IBM Test Accelerator for Z v2.7 Brings On-Demand environments and Enhanced Unit Testing to VS Code.

IBM is pleased to announce IBM Test Accelerator for Z (TAZ) version 2.7, delivering meaningful enhancements that strengthen early development testing, modernize unit testing workflows in Visual Studio Code, and expand the flexibility of On-Demand Environments for z/OS development and testing teams.

Designed specifically for z/OS developers and testers, IBM Test Accelerator for Z continues to help organizations adopt modern DevOps and continuous integration practices—without compromising enterprise-grade reliability.

Shape

Accelerating Agile Testing on z/OS

IBM Test Accelerator for Z is a comprehensive testing solution that enables teams to:

  • Initiate temporary z/OS environments for development and testing

  • Automate unit and functional testing

  • Capture and generate test data efficiently

  • Improve test coverage and maintain tests in modern source code management (SCM) systems

With version 2.7, IBM builds on these strengths to further empower teams to shift testing earlier in the development lifecycle and streamline CI/CD pipelines for z/OS applications.

What’s New in Version 2.7

Enhanced Early Development Testing for VS Code

IBM Test Accelerator for Z Early Development Testing for VS Code is purpose-built to support agile development on z/OS. Version 2.7 introduces several key enhancements that make unit testing faster, more automated, and better integrated with modern workflows:

  • New Command Line Interface (CLI)
A new CLI, included with the Dynamic Test Engine, enables automated early development testing for VS Code unit testing within CI/CD pipelines. This allows teams to more easily integrate z/OS unit tests into enterprise automation workflows.

  • Integrated Compiled Code Coverage
Developers can now run unit tests from VS Code with integrated IBM Compiled Code Coverage analysis, providing valuable insights into test effectiveness and improving overall code quality.

  • Expanded CICS Support
    Version 2.7 adds support for:

  • IBM CICS Transaction Server programs with VSAM file access

  • IBM CICS Multiregion Operation (MRO)
These capabilities make it easier to create and test realistic transaction-based workloads early in the development cycle.

Together, these enhancements help teams adopt continuous testing practices earlier, reduce defects, and accelerate delivery.

On-Demand Environments: More Flexible Provisioning

IBM Test Accelerator for Z On-Demand Environments simplify the provisioning of z/OS systems for development and testing—either through a web-based UI or programmatically via APIs.

With version 2.7, On-Demand Environments now provide:

  • Parallel Sysplex provisioning on Linux x8664 platforms
This enhancement expands deployment options and supports more scalable and resilient test environments.

  • API support for non-root environments
Teams can now define target environments that do not require root permissions, improving security and operational flexibility.

These updates make it easier for teams to provision the right environments quickly, reliably, and securely.

Modern Testing for Modern z/OS Development

With version 2.7, IBM Test Accelerator for Z continues to modernize the z/OS development experience—bringing powerful unit testing, deeper automation, and flexible environment provisioning directly into the tools developers use every day.

By enabling earlier testing, tighter CI/CD integration, and more realistic test scenarios, IBM Test Accelerator for Z helps teams deliver higher-quality z/OS applications—faster and with greater confidence.
