Generate Documentation for Multiple DMN Models in BAMOE Canvas

By Aswathi T V posted Tue April 14, 2026 12:30 AM

If you've been working with DMN models in BAMOE, you know how important good documentation is. Whether you're sharing decision logic with stakeholders or keeping records for compliance, you need a clear view of your models. With BAMOE 9.3.1, we're bringing a feature you loved from the classic editor to the modern React-based DMN editor: the ability to generate comprehensive documentation for multiple DMN models at once.

What's New

The React-based DMN editor now has full feature parity with BAMOE v8's classic editor when it comes to documentation. You can now generate rich, detailed documentation that covers:

  • Multiple DMN models in a single document

  • Decision Requirements Diagrams (DRDs) with visual representations

  • Boxed expressions with complete logic details

  • Data types with constraints and relationships

How It Works

Generating documentation is simple and built right into the editor. Here's how:

  1. Open the Share dropdown in the editor toolbar

  2. Select "Documentation" to open the documentation modal

  3. Choose your DMN models from the searchable list (select one or more)

  4. Click Generate to create your documentation in a new browser tab

What You Get

The generated documentation opens in a new browser tab with a clean, structured HTML view. Here's what's included:

  • Visual DRDs: Each diagram is displayed with expression language and namespace details. You can zoom in to explore complex decision flows.

  • Boxed Expressions: All decision logic is rendered clearly, with questions, allowed answers, and links to related documentation.

  • Data Types: A complete list showing type definitions, constraints, and relationships.

Need to share it with your team or save it for records? Click the Print button at the top-left corner. Your browser's print dialog lets you save the documentation as a PDF or print it directly.

Why This Matters

Good documentation isn't just nice to have—it's essential. Whether you're:

  • Collaborating with business analysts who need to understand decision logic

  • Maintaining complex decision models over time

  • Meeting compliance requirements with audit-ready documentation

  • Onboarding new team members to existing decision models

This feature makes it easy to capture and share your DMN models in a format everyone can understand. No more switching between tools or manually creating documentation—it's all built into your workflow.

This feature is available in BAMOE 9.3.1 and later versions.
