How would it be possible to write to, say, a TS4500 library, with LTO-8 transports, from an existing enterprise environment where the protocol used to address the storage targets is NFS? Or, SMB? or S3? This would take a gateway, and IBM Spectrum NAS does not support a tape tier, IBM COS does not support offload to tape in the object storage world and IBM Spectrum Scale, which does support a tape tier, is a science kit which is appropriate for certain sophisticated users, but not the general market? Any appropriate gateway suggestions to enable tiering to tape would be more than welcomed.
