ODM 9.5.0.1 integrates with decision assistant and delivers many enhancements

By Antony Viaud posted Sat December 20, 2025 03:58 PM

We’re excited to announce the release of IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM) v9.5.0.1, on December 11, 2025.

While ODM 9.5.0.1 is primarily a fix pack delivering a consolidated set of fixes and security updates, it also introduces several meaningful enhancements designed to improve productivity, performance, and integration capabilities.

Key Highlights in ODM 9.5.0.1:

✅ Accelerated Journey from Business Policies to Automation

Traditionally, transforming narrative business policies into ODM’s Business Action Language (BAL) has been a time-consuming process requiring deep expertise and manual effort.

Now, with our latest latest IBM Decision Intelligence SaaS release (December 2025), you can eliminate that complexity. Decision Assistant in IBM Decision Intelligence automates the entire translation process, empowering your team to move from policy to actionable ODM decision automation faster, easier, and with confidence.

Why it’s transformative:

Teams no longer need deep ODM expertise to get started. Business users can articulate intent, and Decision Assistant handles the structural modeling, with data model, ruleflow and BAL rules:

Decision Assistant’s outcome is then available as a fully functional ODM decision service in Decision Center:

What users gain:

  • Decision automation logic aligned with business policies

  • A faster, more accessible onramp to decision automation

  • A learning foundation for less experienced users

✅ Simplified Integration with AI agents

ODM 9.5.0.1 makes it easier to integrate runtime decision services with AI agents using Model Context Protocol (MCP). This builds on the recent delivery of the ODM MCP server as a public asset: ODM MCP Server on GitHub.

Once the ODM MCP Server is installed in compatible agentic applications—such as IBM watsonx Orchestrate and Anthropic Claude—selected runtime decision services can enrich agents with managed, reliable and explainable decisions:

✅ Enhanced User Experience for Rule Authoring

ODM 9.5.0.1 is addressing users’ requests for improved editors when viewing and authoring rule artifacts:

  • Restored editing modes in Decision Center's rule editor:

    • The ‘wrap lines’ mode facilitates display of long lines.

    • The ‘hierarchical’ mode in the completion menu helps users see the business language items organized by types:

  • Restored ‘automatic fit-to-screen’ mode:  a new option for each decision table enables users to automatically view all columns of the table when the viewing area is adjusted.

  • Improved navigation in Rule Designer’s ruleflow editor: users car easily navigate inside large ruleflows with the new ‘Pan’ mode.

✅ Faster and More Efficient Decision Center

ODM 9.5.0.1 introduces significant improvements for managing very large repositories:

  • Scalable UI for Project Security Management
A redesigned interface now handles large sets of decision services efficiently, with advanced filtering options for easier navigation.

  • Reduced Memory Footprint for Project Export
Export operations are optimized to support large decision services without excessive memory consumption.

  • Optimized Database Cache Performance
More queries are now served from the cache, improving overall responsiveness and reducing database

✅ Enhanced Flexibility for Complex Kubernetes Deployments

ODM 9.5.0.1 introduces significant improvements for organizations running on certified Kubernetes environments. These enhancements are designed to simplify the management of complex deployments while providing greater control and scalability.

Key capabilities include:

  • Fine-Tuned Horizontal Pod Autoscaling
Achieve optimal resource utilization by precisely adjusting pod scaling behavior based on workload demands, ensuring consistent performance under varying conditions.

  • Topology Spread Constraints Configuration
Improve resilience and availability by distributing pods evenly across nodes and zones, reducing the risk of single-point failures and enhancing fault tolerance.

  • Rolling Updates for ODM Deployments
Enable seamless updates with zero downtime by leveraging Kubernetes-native rolling update strategies, ensuring continuous service availability during version upgrades.

  • Customizable Decision Server Component Behavior
Define and tailor the operational characteristics of Decision Server components to align with your organization’s performance, compliance, and governance requirements.

Why Upgrade?

ODM 9.5.0.1 is more than a fix pack—it’s a step forward in usability, scalability, and integration, helping you deliver smarter, faster decisions across your enterprise.
