Helping Shape the Future of BAMOE

By Aliannah Muzaffar posted 09/01/26 01:12 PM

As we continue to evolve IBM Business Automation Manager Open Editions (BAMOE), we'd like to take a moment to reflect on the platform's journey, share where we're headed, and ask for your feedback as we plan the next phase of the product.

Many members of our community first encountered these technologies through Red Hat Process Automation Manager (RHPAM) and Red Hat Decision Manager (RHDM). Since becoming BAMOE, the platform has continued to evolve with a strong focus on cloud-native architectures, BPMN workflow orchestration, DMN decision management, business rules, modernization tooling, and more recently, AI-powered automation capabilities.

Over the past several releases, we have invested heavily in helping organizations modernize their automation platforms while reducing adoption barriers for BAMOE 9. Capabilities such as Process Instance Migration, Active Data Migration, runtime versioning, expanded technology support, and operational tooling have been introduced to provide a more predictable and lower-risk modernization journey.
Our most recent release, BAMOE 9.5, continued that momentum with investments in platform modernization, support for Spring Boot 4 and IBM Db2, enhanced integration capabilities, improved security options, workflow event publishing enhancements, and other enterprise-focused improvements. These enhancements help organizations stay current with modern technology stacks while building and operating business-critical automation solutions.

What's New in BAMOE 9.5 - here

While BAMOE 9 remains the strategic direction for future innovation, many organizations continue to run business-critical workloads on BAMOE 8 and older Red Hat PAM/DM. We recognize that modernization timelines vary significantly across enterprises, and not every organization is in a position to migrate immediately.

With BAMOE 8 transitioning to Extended Support in September 2027, we are evaluating a potential BAMOE 8.1 release to help clients modernize key platform dependencies, address technology lifecycle and security requirements, and remain on supported software while planning their migration strategy.

Areas currently being evaluated include updates to foundational technologies such as JBoss EAP, Java, Spring Boot, Red Hat Build of Keycloak, OpenShift support, and operational tooling improvements. These investments would be intended to help clients reduce operational risk, improve security posture, and maintain platform currency while continuing their modernization journey.

We recognize that every organization's modernization path is different. Some clients are actively planning a move to BAMOE 9, while others may expect to remain on BAMOE 8 for several more years. Understanding those plans is important because it helps us make informed decisions about where we invest and how we support clients through their transition.

To help us better understand your priorities, we're conducting a short survey covering current deployment footprints, migration plans, and interest in a potential BAMOE 8.1 release. Whether you are already running BAMOE 9, planning a migration, or continuing to operate BAMOE 8 in production, we'd appreciate hearing from you.

Your feedback will help shape future product planning, migration guidance, and guide investments.

Thank you for being part of the BAMOE community. Your feedback helps us make better decisions, prioritize investments, and continue delivering the capabilities that matter most to our clients.
